Top box Adapter Plate

Hi All

Taken delivery of R1300 GS Triple Black. Had to source engine bats from SW Motec and a few other bits and bobs BUT currently there seems no option for a top-box adapter plate to allow me to fit the Givi box I have used on my 3 previous GS.

I have the 2x BMW side panniers so the options that replace that pannier system won't work.

Any ideas?

morning, not currently available but Givi have the part number on their website deeming it shouldnt be too long.

SW Motech currently only do a complete rear rack to replace the original, which then means you can fit their adapters for any top box as usual. I have the rack on order as I can't even fit my SW Motech top box until that arrives. It's a shame they aren't planning on doing an adapter, just the entire rack.

From what I understand it fits the optional aluminium BMW top box support

Shouldn’t be long now,

Luckily a salesman (who I didn’t buy from) advised me to order the BMW top case rack if I wanted to fit my Givi top box, he was right

The sales person that dealt will my purchase at Vertu Shipley told me not to specify the BMW top case carrier if I intended to fit my GIVI box.
It sounded sensible at the time as it’s quite expensive (£220) and he said specifically for the original top box.

Still a bit unsure, mine is coming with the larger rack (standard trophy gets a grab rail) but not the electric top case plate. I’ll wait until the bike arrives plus message Givi

There is a BMW aluminium rack (as found on the triple black, but not standard on the trophy) that doesn’t fit the top case.
I wonder if the Givi rack will fit on this, or if they will make an adaptor kit for those who don’t buy the BMW central locking BMW plate…. Do hope so.
otherwise I wonder if the wonderful cymarc of this Parrish would design an adaptor.

Having now fitted the SW Motech rack I'm quite liking how minimal it is. I don't think they'll ever do an adapter similar to the one in the pics above so I'm happy with it.

I do now have a spare plate for the rack so I'm tempted to buy the mahoosive Givi Trekker top box and get the adapters from SW Motech so I can switch between plates (and boxes) simply by removing 4 bolts.

With a wide top box , would the top openers clash ? Too add , big top box may cause balance issues etc . Always worked on low weight rather than top weight .

More than likely yes

With most brands of boxes you can undo both latches and lift the lid off completely, the Touratechs have a tether so you can plonk the lid on your seat or let it dangle without worr that it’s going to fall on the floor or dink your bike

Being a bit thick I am confused. I have a 1300 Triple Black coming. I visited North Oxford earlier today and looked at how a TB comes std.

So do we think Givi will be offering a mounting plate to suit what the bike comes with, or do I need to buy the extortion BMW plate or the SW Motech plate plus gibbons to get a Givi Outback alloy top box to fit ?

That’s my position too, I’m hoping / expecting GIVI produces a plate to sit on top of the standard rack my TB TE will come with. That was how it was with my 1250.

My local dealers quote of £1750 for a full set of electric luggage ("that is the deal!") is eye-watering.
I was pleased to be able to get my feet on the ground when sat astride the adaptive height lowering model.
