Hi,
I have a 1150GS with an adventurer Aluminium Top Box on it.
Last night I managed to bust one of the hinges.
Looking inside the top box the top of the hinge is held on by two nuts, on the outside I can prise off a cover on the bottom of the hinge that showed to hex bolt.
I haven't tried to remove the hinge, but my dealer says that I have to buy a new base or top complete with which every part of the hinge is bust, and put the pin in that joins the two parts. He was talking about 1200GS.

Has anyone every just changed the hinge?

yup & easy to do. I know coz being a mechanical numpty - I managed it :augie

However it will cost and arm & leg, plus the offspring of your firstborn if you buy the hinge from BMW.

There is a thread on here about exactly this, with the name of the company (www.zygology.com) that provides replacement hinges for a fraction of the price.

Possibly worth changing both hinges, as they're plastic you don't know how much (invisible) damage has occurred to the other good hinge:rob

Southco C6-3 hinge

Okay
the hinges are Southco C6-3
Zygology want £11.42 + vat each + £8.50 p&p. Thats £37.61.
For the sake of less than £5 I'll get them from BMW.

I'll keep on searching to see if I can get them anywhere else.

Thanks for all your help.

Rob
