Top box Newbie gs owner

Im a newbie gs owner, the gs is the first bike i owned since my teenage days with a 2 stroke 125

Been really enjoying everything appart from my luggage and ability to travel with stuff... I guess i always had a car before...
But looking to tour a bit with my girlfriend in the summer and thinking i need a tankbag and top box for this

I have a pair of stock bmw paniers which are ok but not good if overfilled

Confused about the stock bmw option via somewhere like ebay as i dont know if i need a mount for it and cant work out which model will fit

Will the wider larger r type one fit or only the k series

Looking at diy options, i guess it would have to be a semi permanent bolting to a homemade plate with something to strengthen it like the carabu mounts

You really need to look at the GIVI 55ltr top box if your looking for a box to put 2 helmets in. I had a BMW topbox to start with and it has very little space in it. You can also get the correct mounting kit from GIVI as well. Its a simple job to fit, even if you go fr the brake light kit.

The standard BMW top box (for the 1150 anyway) is shared with other bikes of that era (RT?), has a mounting plate that fixes over the standard rear rack on the GS, and uses a separate key rather than keying to the ignition like the system boxes. It works OK, but you'll need the fitting kit so no reason to prefer it to GIVI or whatever.
