What's the easyest way to find TDC ?

Use a pencil ...

Rocker cover off and middle sparkplug removed. Put in high gear, bar over rear wheel to turn engine in normal DOR, long slim screwdriver down cylinder bore, watch it rise with piston. At TDC check both inlet and exhaust valves are shut and rockers loose (compression stroke).

Watch the inlet valve gear open and then close, and then when the piston reaches tdc on the compression the straw/screwdriver is at the top of it's furthest reach.

And then repeat for the other side. Start on the left side first, and then it's only a half an engine turn for TDC when you come to do the right side.
