I have an 1150 oil head that appears to be leaking from the cylinder head gasket area and would like to know if it is viable to retension the bolts as a means of fixing said leak. ? Thanks in advance.

Are you sure it's not leaking from the rubber seal between the rocker cover and head in the spark plug tube?

Haven't had it apart yet but I did wash it down and after running the oil does seem to be most obvious at the head gasket area. Unless of course the rubber seal leaks down directly on to the gasket area.??

It does give that symptom.
Remove rocker cover and check round rubber seal.
Try turning it 90 deg and refit to rocker cover or get a new one.

Why not? It's the round seal in the plug tunnel, not the big rubber gasket on the outside of the rocker cover.

I've got a feeling that this is what Steptoe recommended as a matter of course when doing a valve clearance check :)

Make 100% sure you know where it is leaking, the wind can play tricks on you and make it look as if the oil is coming from a location which it is not...
