Went down to CW this morning to get a estimate done for the damage on the 1150, called yesterday, told to go down today, bike went straight in, had a coffee, got a new 1200 ADV to play on for a few hours and all yet again all the staff were friendly and very helpfull.

Yep, they're a good bunch.

Anyone going to the 25th anniversary celebrations this coming Sat?

I have not really appreciated CW and the quality of there service, until I experienced poor service which I am currently receiving with my Jag. I know I am comparing apples and pears, but its good to know that if I have a problem with the bike which I can not repair myself, CW will do a good job.

i didn't know there was anything going on. have they celebrated by buying a decent coffee machine? possibly their only real failing.

... What a bunch of feckin' Tossers we must be, all we can find to fault is the quality of the java :blast

... FWIW, I pray to NOG :bow no problems with the 'joe' in their esteemed establishment :thumb

Well we are both off to CW in the morning, servicing on both the bikes, early ferry to get there for opening. Did a good job last yr on nicks bike so lookin forward to riding away on mine once its been through the workshop, definately in need of some TLC, all ready for Wales!
My mate has just moved to Bournemouth so gonna make a day of it since we are over the water and pop in to see her on our travels so if you see a tango'd 1150 and a blue and white one wave :D

Thanks to CW for the great service yesterday, felt like royalty wallking in, knew who we were as soon as we walked in lol! Had a good ride up, off ferry at 6.30 arrived at 7.50, makes me wanna move to the better side of the Solent but just not that easy. Nice friendly people, easy to chat to and very helpful. Met and chatted to a few other gsers, met Rick from on here, he guessed it was me which was a bit worrying, am I that obvious :augie
Seen the new 800 and 650gs in the flesh for the first time, 800 bigger than I had thought it would be, sat on it and was tip toe, then the 650 with the scooped lower seat ok on that. Nick was quite smitten with the 800 but I think I prefer my beefier lookin 1150 if I am honest :D
Got away by 1pm as promised, a lot lighter in the pocket mind but was to be expected
On leaving there rode onto see my mates new house nr Bournemouth where we stayed until gone 5pm, another good ride back to Lymington where we had just missed a ferry and had to wait another 45mins for the next :blast

Lighter in the pocket.

Sounds familiar. Called them on thursday for a price for a service and was quoted £130 more than another BMW dealer.. Whilst we know that these bikes arent cheap to own etc, this sounds like a bit of a p**s take to be honest. When I queried the horrendous price I was told; "It sounds good to me ". Don't doubt it was ,lol.. Wonderful folks they are for sure, but how much are you expected to fork out for this ? There has to come a point where they're pricing themselves out of the game.. I feel they need to be at least competitive.. Quoted cost equated to £100 per hour, granted this included parts etc.. Fair play they're great people ,and their work is good but how much is their stamp in the book worth at the end of the day???

PS:- Coffee / drink machine doesnt reflect their price structure, lol.. Thats swung it then ,lmao..

I feel let down..to be honest

Yep nice people, but £77 for rear pads:confused:
When i got home had a look on Motoworks and the dearest i could find were only £17.
Yep great place great crowd....but the truth is it all comes down to money.
Next time..well i don't know now:(
For the two 1150's, i could had brought a small contry in Africa

Costs

last week my van (Vauxhaull) in for a service front discs and pads, £64.00each, (the set)
why are bike bits (not just BMW ) so expensive?.

bought some rear 1200 pads from them a few weeks back. i'm pretty sure they were £47, same as the time before :nenau

still too much mind, and i've done less than 13000 miles on the first 2 sets.

Much of it is due to economies of scale. A volume manufacturer such as Vauxhall/Opel will be buying in a heck of a lot more brake discs than any of the motorcycle manufacturers and this would be reflected in the cost.

It's no secret that CW are expensive, but...

I don't mind paying for good service and the feeling that I know what I'm getting for my hard earned.

Having had various experiences with other manufacturers' dealers (Try finding a decent Triumph dealer...) it's a price I'm willing to pay, quite literally.

You do get what you pay for with these sorts of things I feel.

Things such as them remembering who you are by name and asking you how the X and Y are going make you feel as though you're part of a community.

Just my 2p worth. :)

But are you getting what you pay for? Certainly value for money isnt high on the agenda. And ,not being rude, but they can forget my name by all means if they get more realistic with their pricing. They can call me "OI YOU" for a lot less, my manager at work gets by with that ,lmao.. Have been called worse come to think of it , and they're paying ME. Not £100 per hour I hasten to add,,,sadly.. Not that I would object to a five hour week of course.. Wonders if I they got any jobs going over there..
Joe C..

Off to Dorchester on Thursday to take the 1150 down for the repairs at last.
Chaps if you read this a nice cup of coffee, bacon sarnie and HP2 for the week would go down well :aidan

Good Independent Mechanic

Guys
C and W nice dealer but if you are out of warranty Barry Barber in Portsmouth does an excellent job at exceedingly fair prices . He doesnt have the overheads or the hourly rates of a main dealer
Just a satisfied customer
Frank

Who is Barry Barber ? Does he advertise in the BMW Journal ?
