Booked into N. Oxford BMW for the 12000 mile service, they quoted £217, £63 cheaper than Battersea. I was loaned a brand new K1200GT, very pleasant and free, they sorted everything i asked them to do in a friendly and efficient way. The best bit was i happened to mention the top box woes i had seen on this forum, i had not had any grief myself except it had become a bit loose on the mounting bracket. Anyway they took the bike on the road test after the service and it fell off! (empty at the time) Result: one new top box supplied under warranty and i can report it feels much more secure than the old one ever did. I totally recommend this venue. Thanks also to everyone for their input. :clap :clap :clap

Had Nothing but 1st class service from Matt and the guys at NOG, nice to see a dealer who cares, well done chaps :thumb :D

Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I am such a twit, what i meant was an R1200 RT..... i feel totally embarrassed and worried about it all day at work after i realised my error too late :o . Anyway moving on, if anyone is interested my thoughts about the RT were that it was overall an impressive machine but i would not swap it for the GS. I was riding on the M40 against a wind gusting up to 80mph, despite the severe conditions i think the bike handled the situation well probably better than the GS. It felt very solid and comfort was enhanced by less vibs thru the bars at speed but the seat was a bit hard. Performance was about the same, the extra bhp is obviously nullified by the extra weight and the engine was still so new. Good bike for touring but no good as an all-rounder which is what i need. At the end of the day it felt good getting back on the GS.

I borrowed a R1200ST,then a R1200RT from the folks at Rainbow when my GS was in for some work. I didn't like the ST, then it broke down anyway. :nenau
I had the RT most of the day on most types of roads. I'm 15st, not unfit, and 6ft tall, the tank was only 1/4 full. This is a bike you don't want to turn round on a hill (like Bradford). When it starts to go it gathers momentum fast.
Not a bike for wet grass or muddy campsites two up with a wet tent like a dead dog on the back. :D
A bit wide for easy town work too.
The only other negative for me was the mirrors, below the forearms with a restricted view just to add style points to the fairing.
Other than that, superb. Great handling other than sidewind problems (it was very windy). I couldn't stop playing with the toys, screen, comp etc.
That said, I was glad to get on the GS again, best bike I rode all day. Then home for a jar.

I'll have to have a word with that lot - I only ever get a 650 Dakar loaner when I take the Panzer in... :D

I have only had one service at NOG (so far) and I also got the 650 Dakar. Not a bad bike but not my cup of tea. Getting back on the GS felt like riding back on a Rolls Royce :)
