Quick question for you.

I need to replace one of the top fork stanchion bushes on the 1150GSA due to a slight knock and wooly handling over uneven road surfaces. There is definate play in one of the bushes in comparison to the other side.

Are they a pressed fit, and are they removed from the top down over or from the bottom upover ?

Looks like its top downover but I cant find out for certain so if anyone has done it can you enlighten me before I get to making a homemade puller.

I have found new ones at £68 delivered from Motorworks

Finally I take it I dont need to replace them as a pair

Cheers

Chris

Nope got the yoke/fork brace off easily enough, I just need to know which way the joint link/bushes come out.

I think I have found out online via ADVrider, looks like they pull out from the top, so will be giving that a go tomorrow after work.

Do these joints/bushes look damaged? I only ask because they are a "metalastic" bonded rubber type of bush.
I'm still on the originals (2001 GS) with no problems.
On the other hand I did have to replace the centre bearing in the top yoke a few years ago - it had play and was rough, due to water entry through the top seal - the knock and wooly steering I had due to this bearing came on fairly quickly.
Worth a check maybe?

PS.....The bushes your trying to change DO come out UP the way, but they are held in place by a wire snap-ring on top - you may have to try and knock bushes down slightly to free the snap-ring to allow removal - maybe?
Also, as usual, BMW have special tools for driving the bushes out/in and although "special tools" are often not needed, I would think you may need to be able to machine up a suitable drift for this job due to the narrow land on the steel outer shell of the bushes - but maybe not?

Yes mate the right hand one is fooked, about 5mm movemement in the whole fork leg as a result of the play in it. Other one is spot on so hopefully its just the £70 for one i need the shell out :blast

For anyone else that needs to replace them, they pull out from the top.

Hair dryer for 20 minutes on the yoke, then a 17mm socket underneath and a 32 mm on top, long bolt through the centre and a away you go
