Following the sale of my R1250 GSA and C400X I picked up a new R1300 GSA TE yesterday from my local BMW dealer.

As most of you are aware. There are no BMW topboxes available at present. Then when they are, we don’t know if they will be suitable. Not leak and not fall off.

I had a few options. But not keen to spend hundreds. So I had a go at trying to fit something a bit more budget.
I had a spare new topbox and mount in the garage. The idea was to fit the mounting plate to the bike’s rear carrier.
This could not be done easily due to the spacing on the rear carrier.

So I have mounted the topbox direct to the carrier.

Using a few spacers and stainless rubber washers. I drilled 4 holes in the bottom of the topbox. Then with a 4 stainless bolts and the special washers either side of the holes in the topbox, I screwed it directly onto the bikes carrier.

Not sure if this is a temporary or permanent fix.
I have ordered some shorter spacers. This will get the topbox a bit lower, but still clear the grab rails.

Cost. About £60.

Didn’t think it looks too shabby. Has a lock and two keys. Backrest and fully lined.

I had one of those "Amazon specials" on my KTM 1290 and the smaller version on my Transalp. Cracking bits of kit which demonstrate what an absolute ripoff all the other makes are. Says the idiot that's just ponied up for full vario luggage on his 1300 :sneaky:
