Why do you think you've topped up too much?

Just ride it, it'll be fine.
Don't you f*cking dare!....
You need to contact your dealer immediately.
Too much oil can result in a hydraulic lock which will bugger the cylinder head as a minimum.
Don't listen to the 'it'll be alright' crowd.
Get the bike recovered. Do not ride it. Do not even start it.
Tip it upside down and shake it

I may have been doing it wrong but I usually top mine up to the top of the sight glass either when changing the oil or topping up - both when cold and never had a problem.
Are you saying it should only be at the top of the sight glass when hot?

Alternatively if you are still worried drain some or all of it out via the drain plug and top it up again
If i understand you correctly, you have topped the oil level up to the top of the sight glass. if thats right there is no problem.
As for which oil you have used , now thats another matter. I should worry about that !.

yes just at top of sight glass, it was a 1/4 full on the glass cold so i topped with 1/4 l of oil . i didnt think it would take it to that level

In order to try to help I would suggest that if you can still see the 'top' of the oil level through the glass at cold (Even if it's slightly above the maximum indicator) then you don't have a problem
IF you are sure it's "just" to upper edge of the sight glass then start it and ride it!
BUT If you think that possibly it is way over then take out the bung and drain the oil and put 3.5 litre back in and go for a ride!
When you drive in with the engine up to operating temp turn off the engine and leave it on the sidestand 5 or 10 mins while you get your gear off
Put it on the centre stand and check the level anywhere above lower third level will be okay if you are worried add 200ml and let it drop to the sump and check again

Hi just topped up the oil .the bikes cold i have nt started it and its just up to the full level on the glass sight
best advice ?

I always check mine when its on the side stand you have to get down quite low to see, puzles me why they don't put the site glass higher on the bike, never had to top it up yet. should I have the engine hot for this?
