Hi, SW Motech engine bars on a 2012 1200 GS. Anyone have the torque setting for the two retaining bolts to the engine block under the cylinder heads?
Thanks, Nick

Normal tight with a standard spanner is acceptable for any normal bolt/nut. Tighten until you feel the spring Dont tighten solid because the next stage is no threads. Use thread lock if you are worried about it shaking loose. A torque wrench has zero feel so more likely to strip a thread than feeling for the spring.

Nick, I'll try and PM you photo's of the SW Motech instructions. The bolts you are referring too are the M10 (bolt no.12) and require 46Nm.

Cheers.

I'm scared.

How many threads do we have where someone stripped a thread even though (they say) they used a correct setting on a torque wrench? These tools are ideal when a number of fasteners all have to be at the same torque or for special bolts where a specific stretch is required. After that they are at best over-kill and potentially more harmful than useful. They have their place.

The op did not ask a question on the merits of using a torque wrench:nenau

As usual despite not knowing the answer you have to spout some wisdom or other:blast

Oh dear. Why would anyone want the torque number if they dont use a torque wrench?

Holy crap :blast
