I need to know the correct torque values for fixing the handlebars to the bike (2004 GS).

According to the info in "font of all Wisdom" (which was taken from the US site 'GS info') it's 21Nm

According to my Haynes manual it's 28Nm - 33% more

Are Haynes wrong (wouldn't be the first time) or are the settings different on a US-spec bike?

Any thoughts?

The innacuracy of your wrench is probably greater than the difference! Opt for 24nm and use your feel.

I just changed mine for Stainless as the previous owner had fitted a sat nav bracket to the bridge and the bolts were rusty :blast

I used the RepRom value of 21NM

They seem tight enough, particularly as I had copper grease on the threads.

Thanks for the input! I found my long-lost maintenance CD and it specifies 21Nm too, so that's what I'll go for. :beerjug:

Or....Tighten them until they stop slipping in their clamps, then add an extra quarter turn to each bolt. If you now try to move them but you can't, they're tight enough IMHO.
