Firebreak on right is Zig-Zag of Death

From my villa I´ve also spent ages looking at the Zig-Zag of Death and have to say that, from five miles away it looks soooooo easy!! ;)

I´ve spent the last couple of days recce'ing trails in a hire car and found a whole load of new trails outside the park.

The Alberdini seems to be building a reputation for live music - plus the waitresses are, erm, interesting.

There will be ´Live Open Mic Sessions´on evening of Wednesday 5 October. It could be grot karaoke but who knows ....

It seems that Spanish dibble are out to add to their coffers.

Here´s the advice I´ve received:

  • On the roads, keep riding to very sensible levels. Save wheelies etc for the trails.
  • Driving licence, EU-style plate or GB sticker and passport when on the road
  • Headlights on
  • Helmet (despite what the locals do)
  • L/h mirror

There appears to be no enforceable speed limit on the Runway of Death

I'm back home now after a really interesting week! Met a lot of interesting people and found a whole raft of new trails!

It seems that the world in changing a bit for the professional trail companies in the area. Here's some of the guff:

  • There are 4 local police officers in town - one of them is new and very keen!
  • Some of the professional firms have been using some/all UK registered bikes; these have not paid Spanish tax and have not been subject to the Spanish MoT (itv). I hear of UK reg bikes being impounded and one firm reputedly received a 60,000 Euro fine.
  • There is no problem at all with taking UK bikes to Spain for a week on a non-commercial basis
  • The Tejeda park is closed in August due to the fire risk. This is nothing new and happens every year. When it reopens is pretty much down to how much rain there has been.
  • On Friday night I had a beer with Jose Maria (one of the Park Wardens) and his brother and his brother's mate (cost me a fecking fortune in drinks!!). He wasn't about to give a definitive 'OK' to us riding in the park but he was pretty sure that by 2 October, as an amateur group, there would be no issues provided we keep to the marked trails and didn't pass any barriers.
  • The Valley of Death (properly known as The Devil's Gorge) appears to belong to a Belgian guy who is disinclined to pay for repairs

So, in summary, for us, nothing much changes!

:D

Hi Greg, great to meet you the other night at Oscars - great fun (the Bakerman story still has me giggling) :D

I was at the Alberdini on Friday and the owner was telling us that the Park opens on October 1.

..wish I was coming for the October trip :blast

Mr Tickle is deciding which bike to buy. He writes ...

"I start gym next weekend too, personal trainer and everything. I'm whipping Roger's arse as well. Double lulz"

Be very scared!

Personel trainer, gym, my arse.... but yes i had completly forgotten how lame he was at the arm wrestling! TREBLE lulz

Not scared at all

Starting to prep my bike. Here my list to stuff to do which may prompt others:

  • Fresh oil & filter
  • Clean air filter
  • New mousses and tyres – I went too hard on the front last year, so this year I’ll be using a front Metzeler 6 day plus a Michelin M15 mousse and AC10 + M14 on rear.
  • Fit new front sprocket
  • The bike’s already got a newish chain on it but I’ve swapped to a rivet link as the chain guide wears the circlip on a split link.
  • Fit l/hand (folding) mirror
  • Fit new handguards
  • Regrease wheel bearings

I have, currently stashed in Competa, a paddock stand and and oil drain. During our week in Spain I will again change the oil and filter and the air filter. Last year it was pretty dusty – it is currently very dusty on the trails.

For those new to the trip, you might want to pack a few maintenance tools and stuff like chain lube and any service items you think you'll need for a hard week on the <strike>piss</strike> trails.

:hammer

Greg

PS There are plenty of pictures from past trips of bikes (mine included) in various states of repair. My personal ambition is to get through a week without anything more than routine maintenance!

Don't forget your tow rope:aidan

I had my toes in that ford less than a week ago! The water is just as pleasant as it was when I dumped my bike in there last year!

:blast

PS the battery that I snapped the terminal off is now working well on a mate's WR450 on which the cables mount on the side of the battery terminal.
