Total and Complete Brake Failure !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If your oil light comes on,do you ignore that as well.

No, you do what I did, you pull over, you check the oil level. If it is found to be OK then you continue to ride, just as I did. You then assume, as I did, that it is yet another BMW electrical fault :rob

Dennis mate, if the oil pumps knackered, you will quickly seize the engine, safe in the knowledge that the oil level was OK so it wasnt your fault because you checked the oil level, and warning lights are wrong sometimes :)

Dennis me ol fruit, sorry to hear of your braking woes... Back in early 2002 reported problems with the abs were the main reason why i ordered my bike without the servo/abs. So far the brakes are about the only thing that's not gone wrong with my bike!!! :D
As for mbw addressing the issue? Well, watch this space, word has it they're developing a new non servo abs system for their big bikes, based on the system currently used on their 650s and (i think) the new F800.

Oh, and as for the oil switch??? Most owners regard this as a service item which should be on the 12K service list, due to the fact they never last much longer than that. I'm doing my 48K service this weekend and am replacing mine for the third time!

And another oh... Oi Vern... you gone and bought one of those nice shiney, electrically unreliable 1200 Adventures yet!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

I also wouldn't touch a bike with servo/abs. :nono

When we were at the BWM factory in Berlin last year we were proudly advised that customers could choose the spec. etc on their new bike and it would be built accordingly.
I asked the 'guide' why then can I not order a bike with abs but no servo, because servos are having problems and switchable abs is a good thing?

With what I though was arrogance at the time, he replied that customer feedback indicated servo/abs was what buyers wanted...........I wonder if they are finally getting the message

Me neither...................but I would have ABS Evo 2 again, as fitted to Pre-Servo ABS bikes

Change happened in mid 2002, after the Germans had their summer hols

However the non ABS.... non Servo brakes I have now, with Braided Hoses on the 1150ADV are top notch :thumb

Plenty of feel/feedback and tremendous stopping power.............however the lack of ABS to some would be seen as a weakness in the wet/diesel/snow/ice/gravel/mud/slurry :nenau - I'll live with it

Mountainman, you great long tosser, what you doing on here?

You don't need any brakes at all do you,you just put your feet down. :D

If you choose to gamble and ignore a brake failure warning light, which is probably mainly there to warn of brake failure, I dont think its BWMs fault if it goes pear shaped???

Glad it turned out OK...

:argue

Sorry, but what a load of smug bo//ocks.....

Ill start by saying that I've never had a problem with the brakes on my 04 Adventure, which has the servo ABS option....

but....... the brakes are the primary reason why i'm currently in the process of chopping it in for another bike. I just didnt want to be saddled with a £1000 repair bill when it goes out of warranty because the servo box has packed up. And to add the list of ad hoc "evidence", my brothers 05 Adventure had 2 servo's fail within 4 months.

and.... I wont be buying another beemer until they've ditched this system in favour of something less complex. If a Goldwing doesn't need servo assistance why does a GS? The only question you need to ask IMHO.
