toughbook help please

I have just bought a (very) used panasonic cf-m34 running windows xp.

This is a wireless model but should it pick up a signal automatically?
I can get online plugged into my router or using a dongle but when I try to use the o2 connection manager it askes me to enable my wi-fi.

As I'm somewhat of a luddite when it comes to these things can anyone help me get this thing online and wireless........pleeeeeeze

P.S. Can I have any replies without computerspeak please unless it's really simple, thank you.

Rob, I know this sounds very basic, but my laptop has a switch to enable wireless connectivity. There isn't a switch set to 'off' is there?

I thought there might be but if there is I can't see it
The wireless light is flashing if that makes any difference.

No, I'm not back yet. Too busy enjoying food and wine in Burgundy. But this might help - if your's is anything like mine.

- Click on start
- Click on Control Panel
- Click on Wireless Network Setup Wizard
- Follow the instructions you will be given.
