Anyone going over for the race at all ?
What stages are you hoping to see ??

We'll be there, always try and take in a stage somewhere.
This year at a little town on stage 4, the Abbeville - Rouen stage.

nice one.
we are going to Aix Les Bains and will kind of be in the middle of three hilly stages so hope to catch at least one of them.
We are stopping B/B but will possibly overnight in a tent somewhere on one of the climbs.

No, but I'm going to watch a friend of mine do the etape du tour. 152 km and thousands of metres of ascent/descent. Gives me palpitations just thinking about it.

It will be coming near to us (about 4 miles away) on Stage 18 - Blagnac to Brive. I'll probably cycle across and have a look. It isn't a particularly exciting stage and at the point near to us they are on a main road that isn't too exciting.
If they detoured off just a few hundred metres they would be on some really nice little cat 4 climbs.

For us it will be stage 16. Spoilt for choice really, Tourmalet, Aspin or Aubisque? Probably Aubisque again this year as the setting is so spectacular. We have always found it a huge advantage being on the motorbike to get a good spot, four wheels are generally stopped accessing the route on the day but this doesnt seem to apply to two.

We still have a couple of rooms available while the Tour is in the Pyrenees if anyone is interested?

Cheers, Phil

Thats interesting, we are considering going onto the stage the night before and camping BUT what you have said may change our minds !!

Bradley Wiggins looks to be the firm favourite. He blitzed the field yesterday in a 50km time trial putting nearly 2 mins into last years winner Cadel Evans :thumb2

Going to pop over and give Brad a cheer on the final climb of the day tomorrow :-) :clap

A friend of mine is riding the entire tour route in aid of the charity Teenage Cancer Trust. He's doing it entirely at his own expense so any penny you donate goes straight to the TCT. You can read about it here:

How early is early ??

They shut the roads well ahead of the Tour passing, with large yellow signs giving comprehensive details as to when the local roads will be open and shut.

I have seen it once, on the Col Marie Blanque http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Col_de_Marie-Blanque Knowing nothing about the Tour I visited the local tourist office, who were a mine useful of information and very helpful as usual.

Their suggestion was for me to ride up the col in the late afternoon the day before, camp and enjoy the whole spectacle from there. It was good advice. I don't think I have ever seen so many campervans, mobile homes and assorted similar vehicles lining the road all the way up a very large col. As it was an official timing post, all sorts of paraphernalia appeared during the course of the late afternoon; a beer tent, BBQ stalls, a sound system. In short. a party out of nowhere. Excellent!

Like any major sporting event, Le Tour is worth seeing even if (like me) you have no great interest in bicycling or bicycle racing. Being in France during the Tour's progress it becomes quite infectious, not least as you can't avoid it.

Just given a few bob to your mate ZZR.

Hope it goes ok for himself.

Does anyone know where you can find the gpx files stage by stage.

Found them last year which proved very useful, but can't seem to find this year.
