Tour de France

Unbelievable so happy for him and his team for believing it was possible. Just fantastic news 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Absolutely - plenty thought Cav was washed up, but his team had faith, assembled some great assistants (Renshaw behind the scenes, Michael Morkov on the road), Vinokorov pulling all the strings. Vinokorov had massive faith in Cav to assemble such a great sprint set-up, and hopefully the sponsors will now be rewarded.

Today's supposed to be a good one for Cav - in fact it's the day they targeted for the 35th win. I don't mind whether he gets another win today - but how great would it be if he could sign off his career with a win on the Champs Elysees in a couple of weeks?

Egan Bernal (2019 TdF winner) and Carlos Rodriguez...hedging their bets.
Rodrigeuz won the Tour de Romandie and 4th in the Criterium de Dauphine earlier this year. Bernal is getting back in form after a bad crash 2 yrs ago.
TY.

My missus and I like DM as he is very incisive on team tactics. He will explain why the peloton wont react or will react to breakaways etc. If you compare him to Sean Kelly on Eurosport who tells you things like. “ as they go up hill it will get harder”. No disrespect to SK he is a cycling legend for his achievements, but not as a commentator.
I agree with all of this.
I don't like DM having read his autobiography but he is getting very good at analysis and the explaining of the finer points of what's going on in the race.
Conversely I used to really like Ned Boulting but I think he's got a bit full of himself now, arguing with and talking over those who have actually been there and done it rather than just sticking to commentating, much like TC Gavin Emmet in Moto GP.

Thanks everyone for enlightening me. Due to the Olympics, perhaps?

Shame, the Champs finish is iconic. I'd rather they shifted the Olympics to Nice and left the Tour finish as is!
Yes I believe it’s the first year ever. Another one or two wins would be great but I’m more than happy with the one 👌 they will of course be gunning for more , fingers crossed hey

Nah, I'd happily not see it on the TdF again.
The commentators have mentioned flares several times...always slating them, the fumes getting in the riders face/mouths/lungs and yet riding along behind vehicles for a mile or three with shed loads of white dust being sucked in is fine.

What is Vingegaard's plan, he seems far too relaxed and chilled out with his current GC position. It is almost scary and seems to me he has a plan to go for Pogicar on a specific stage.

He lacks to support of Kuss and Roglic of last year, plus his recovery from a bad crash...

Vingegaard wins today's stage, is this the start of his attack?
As he crossed the line just edging Pogacar, I remembered your post and thought....well, he must have read it cos here's his plan. I really thought Pog had gone when he took off near the top of Puy Mary and quickly got to a 20+ second gap. Vingegaard rode superbly (as did Evenepoel to a lesser degree)
I reckon it is now down to what his team mates can do to support him...still the Pyrenees and Alps to go....6 more mountain stages left plus the last day hilly TT
