I,m looking for a motocross style helmet with a visor system like the tour x.

I have had a tour x but before I replace it I want to know if there are any other makes on the market?

Any suggestions and experiences ? please.

The BM Enduro helmet is the only real quality alternative.:(

Shoei make a superb dual sport helmet but don't bring it into Europe.:tears

There are a number of cheaper helmets on the market and a 'search' will show opinions on them. I've had a good look at them all and I have to say that if you are used to Arai quality and have the budget then the only alternative is the BM version (and I wasn't convinced by that :hide ).

BM Enduro helmet? Not tried one, some seem to like it, others don't :nenau

I have one, nice lid (I got mine for the right money though, if I'd have had to pay full price I would have gone Tour x).

The peak vibrates like a b'stard, 10 minutes and some dynamat and it's now fine!!!!
Folds ya ears up when you put it on, vents on top are not as good as the Tour x but the anti mist is faultless where as tour x mists up unless you use pinlock or foggy mask.

Visor is 5 sec job to remove and overall I'm very very happy. Some bits are better than tour x, some are worse.

I seem to have a load of helmets (including a few BMW ones) and by far my favourite helmet is my BMW Enduro one. My one was one of the very first ones and I paid full price and have had NO problems whatsoever with it.

As Flipfly said you do have to watch your ears as you put it on/take it off but once on I find it very comfortable. Easy to move head around and very good field of vision. Good ventilation and anti misting. Quieter helmet than my System 4. I find the adjustable peak great in sunny weather.

I have never had any problems with peak vibrating and I find mine is excellent with my R1200GS. I have the standard GS screen and with the Enduro helmet I don't suffer any vibrating or wind buffeting that others talk about. Unless its raining I ride with the visor up all the time and no problems with peak vibrating and touching it, which I have heard before.

I really just need to put all my other helmets on ebay as the BMW Enduro one is the one I reach for all the time.

Airoh S4

If you are used to Arai quality I wouldn't cross the road to look at this. The one in my local HG was finished so badly I wouldn't have paid £20 for it let alone trust it to save my head in a smash. The visor only touched the seal for about 25% of it's length and the stickers were peeling off.

Apart from that it was a great helmet

Why this isn't available in Europe is beyond me.

I pointed it out to the Shoei importer at the NEC a couple of years ago. They didn't even seem to be aware of it's existance. Given the popularity of the large trail bike style bikes in the rest of Europe and the surge of the GS in the U.K the continued refusal to import it is frustrating to say the least. I think it's better looking than the Tour-X :bounce1

What happens when they just don't fit your head?

I've tried a Tour-X and the large is too small, the X-large is too big. They look great and they are very well built, but they just don't fit me :(

Guy - don't give up dude :aidan

I was EXACTLY the same - an xl seemed too big but an L was def too small.

I bought the XL anyway as I thought I would just look at the paintjob anyway all day

I changed the cheek pads to thicker ones and it was transformed - - fits a dream now- it's worth a try :thumb

Not really in the market for a lid at the moment, but I tried out a Tour-X at the weekend when I was buying some better boots. Until now, I've always suited Arais, but the Tour-X's were downright uncomfortable.

There was an HJC that fitted fairly nicely, but it didn't have a visor like the Arai. There was another HJC lid there that did have a visor, but they didn't have my size and I didn't catch the model. I've just called the shop (Hein Gericke, Braintree) and it's an HJC CL-XS. Don't know why, but it's not on either the HJC UK website, or Hein Gericke's, but they're available from Oxford Products. The going rate seems to be £99.

Nice enough but similar visor fit issues to the Airoh IMHO. It looks like this .....

Airoh S4

I've got one of these, and it's not bad, but like others have said, it doesn't fill you with confidence like say my Roof 010 which just feels like it would do better if the day comes. When you take the lining out of the Airoh, the polystyrene inner shell is like a bicycle lid ie lines of styrene rather than solid. All other lids I've had have solid shells, what's the Arai like?

I'm starting to worry now that this is actually a glorified mountain biking lid!! Reckon I'll go for an Arai Toiur in the near future, shame they don't import the Shoei Hornet. Anyone got a mint medium Tour they want to sell on? Quite happy to let the S4 go for £45 inc post (a few scratches on visor, but not been dropped, matt black, size small 56).

Yes the S4 is a budget helmet...but it does meet the 'Gold' standard. OK its no Tour X but then thats expensive and not without its faults....do you really expect to pay £300 for a shitty peak...no excuses there. When you fill your tour X up with shitty stagnant water off road and its rancid as hell I am sure you will relish the quality as it smells like a dustbin. They maybe washable (so's the S4) but like most foam its density and memory deplete with water and detergent.

I have yet to read any evidence that cheaper helmets are not safe..maybe just not so comfortable or quiet, anybody got proof to the contrary?

The Tour X is just a posers (sp?) helmet IMO designed for show and image and successfully promoted by the Long Way crew :augie... The wanna bes optional extra :D I settle for proper function and design with my Arai Viper GT
