Hi all

Done 5800 miles on a gs rallye. Just replaced the rear tourance exp. quite a spirited rider no pillion.

The question is, as I will be doing a Garmisch tour in a couple of weeks (2k miles I should think ) will the front do another 2k miles? Looks ok to me, and the rear wasn't totally gone when I replaced it.

Used to new tyres every 2500 on my sports bike.

Ridden mainly on twisty roads. No squared off tyres for me and a real minimum of off road.

Help on this really appreciated.

Bob.

the normal tourances go on for a lot longer the exp's are soft so give good handling but no mileage

ive just replaced my front and rear tourance exp, s, today actually, i have replaced them with standard tourance, front and rear, :thumb

my exp,s had been on from being a brand new bike 12 months ago, they had done exactly 6100 miles today, about 50% of the 6100 miles has been two up touring with 3 panniers fully loaded, the other 50% on interestingly twisty minor back roads, and passes.:thumb2:thumb2

with the new tyres on today the bike has put a great big grin back on my face awesome, i realise now how bad my tyres were with 6100 on them :barf

to answer the original post my front tyre would probably have done another 2k miles, i reckon, but i got a 20% discount for replacing both tyres so i changed them both today

i have just ordered a new rear trail attack for my bike. old one's done 5250 and it's got just over a mm left in the centre. it's probably lasted about as well as the original EXP the bike came fitted with - performance about the same, but is quieter.

seen very little motorway, loads of 2 up over mountains abroad and back lane hooning in this country. no chicken strips, so the edges have been used as much as i can :D

front's probably got a few thousand left in it.

The way my last back tyre has worn it looks like the front tyre will be fine for two back tyres. Different brands may last longer (or not) but the 2:1 ratio looks about right.

Changing my rear EXP on Saturday having done £4k. The front looks OK for a few more miles and I am putting on an EXP(M) version. They wear quickly, but I like the tyre :D

Thanks everyone. Ordered a new tourance exp for the front. Really just in case I need it. Ill measure the tread in a week and if under 3mm ? Will replace.

At the end of the day do you want it nagging you in the back of your mind :nenau

Last year did the Pyrenees on tyres that where good for the trip but would be getting shot when I got home.

Then Brittany ferries went on strike, so had to do an extra 1500 miles on them that was un expected, the back was totally shot when I got home. The trip though UK was interesting in the pissing rain.

thats where my tyres were showing they were in a poor state, after a shower of rain, i had to take it really steady or they were slipping about, which was not very pleasant really.

1. Rallyes are even worse than Tripple Blacks for tyre wear.
2. Do you really want to think 'if only I'd changed the front tyre too' if it causes you to drop the bike on your trip?
Peace of mind comes at a cost. The cost is usually a great deal less than the the possible consequences.

Change the tyre and never think about it while on your trip/don't change and take the worry with you.

My rear EXP is now under 4mm after 3k, i do 600 mile weekends to the Ardennes ( another one tomo) mostly motorways so it will probly have over 3mm but my next trip is to the alps in 2 1/2 weeks, i wont risk it and will change before i go but keep the tyre and put it backpon once ive worn the new one out for a few extra weekends over the water :thumb

had 2 sets of conti trail attack. each set has lasted over 12000 miles. \In fact rear is now in shed as emergency repiar...why bother with tourance

Good point pal- will put a new Tourance on and keep the old one for the UK. I`m sure there is 2K on this but dont want to chance it.

It seems a few on here dont like the Tourance EXP. These were on the bike when I got it from new. I have been really impressed with this tyre-It doesnt fall into corners- Try riding a new blade!!

Lovely predictable turn in, quiet tyres. Loads of grip in wet or dry- you will not need any more than these for the road.

Took this bike to Cadwell for a track day- I have been going to Cadwell for over 15 years on all kinds of bike- from full on race bikes to CCM supermoto.

Was really impressed by the tyres- few slides- mostly into the hairpin-but really predictable- lovely grip on the exit. Was doing easy 1.50s.- Overtook a GSXR 1000 on the exit of Charlies two- guy came to talk to me later- said the bike was "awesome".

recommended.

M version has deeper tread for large adv bikes :thumb

Always had Old Metzler Tourance on my 1200 GSA'S tried the next tyres they were great almost making you a little cocky in the wet... But they never read correct with onboard tyre monitors OK you can say just check the tyre pressures with a gauge and you know whats in. I do but its nice to ride along and have a cursory check on the cockpit.

So when I sold my 2010 GSA last month the new GSA 90 came with EXP's
I have only covered 3k miles and the back tyre is squaring off pressure has been 2.9bar or 42psi all the time, it's very disappointing I would have hoped for 7K - 8K but maybe not! So I have ordered a new rear EXP (M) and will see how many miles i get from it?

I was a little put off by all thE comments re Conti trail attacks juddering on white line sand over banding? Have a few mates with them who confirm that they are doing it. So not sure what i would buy as a pair later, maybe Anakee 3's....

Get 8k out of a pair of EXPs, probably get a bit more out of the front but always stick a pair on :thumby:

No idea what I get out of my tyres, I just ride it until the tyres are worn then change them. :nenau
Rear Tourance is just starting to square off now, should last me until next spring then got a new rear in the loft for when it needs doing.
