Tourance exp mileage question

So today i went off and bought a new Tourance EXP (M) for those interested there is 8mm of tread on the (M) and on the old Tourance there is 9mm not sure what on a standard EXP cos they did not have one for me to measure.

My bike is now 6 weeks old and has covered only 3,250 miles and even the tyres fitter at National said they had word to 1mm very fast! My mates who i took up also has only done 2,500 miles!

So here w ego we are off to Croatia Wed night we will see how the (M) go's as our trip is 3k at least...

all new rubber on the rear...

See the (M)

now loading spam tins ready to get off Wednesday...

even put a wee flag on my top box :-)

Derek,

The EXP has 7.2mm, ive just ordered the EXP M being it's being fitted to mine on friday £111 at protyre.

My old one has done 3600 miles and is down to 2.8mm but im off to the Alps with some fellow tossers in 9 days so it wont make it :D

Hi all
I had 2 new Exp fitted last week at 6000 miles.
This is my first GS and I had optimistically hoped for more - but it sounds like this is fairly normal. The big surprise to me was that the front had less life in it than the rear.

Got my new EXP on the front- 4mm to wear indicator- old one ( 5800 miles ) had 2.5mm to wear indicator.

Not squared off at all- ( do minimum motorway- more or less all b roads. ) Including a couple of track days. Probably will have 2000 miles left easy on old one.

Rear had lots of life at 5800 but got new M EXP on. Had started to square off alittle. Madness to run these tyres without any tread or badly squared off- motorbiking should be safe and fun. Why have a 13K bike with £20 worth of rubber??

Very happy with these tyres.

EXP M

Read with interest this post. I'm to southern spain next month. New rear Old type tourance. However, front will prob get me down to Spain but need changing then. Is it worth changing in spain or before I leave. Not sure how easy it will be changing the front while down there.
Also, whats the best price you've got for the EXP (M). I'm tempted to try the M on the front and change the rear to the M on my return. Must admit I'm a bit put off by the low mileage stories!

My standard tourance rear does 11k generally before I change them as a pair although the front will go much longer. The rear is not worn out but becomes very flat in the centre to the point where you have to get over the ridge before cornering harder, not a problem in the dry but in the wet the transition is a bit unnerving. I also get some instability over white lines which is why I change them. I've never reached the limit of the standard tourance ability so don't need anything grippier and prefer the acceptable mileage that they give-why change to EXP or next :nenau

I`m the OP on this thread. I had just the same problem as you and decided to swap to a new EXP front, take the old one off and use this in the UK later. You dont really want to be swapping tyres on holiday. Dead easy to take off- easiest bike ever to do that. Best I found was £93 delivered. £15 to fit and balance.

Whilst the old tourance would give enough grip for most my thoughts are that you never have enough grip. Especially on Track Days, Alpine roads. I never compromise grip for mileage.

Interesting thread.

When new my bike came fitted with EXPs. Replaced the rear with a EXP (M) at just over 6k and the front still had about 3.5mm - so left it on.

Bike now just over 8k and it looks like the (M) rear is not going to last much longer than the original rear EXP. When the front needs replacing will probably put a set of standard Tourance on. Had them on my original 1200 and a set was good for about 10k.

But on second thoughts I may go for something completely different. :D

Mine Tourance EXP has now clock 10,000 miles and is still a few thousands to go. I'm a 95/5 user. With three boxes attach for my daily commuting to work. The wet handling is super. If it like the Motorrad test from the German's Magazine had said that the New Tourance NEXT is much more longevity then the EXP. I will definitely go the "NEXT"!!
