Touratech Tractive Plug and Play

I have just had the Touratech D ESA rear shock fitted to my '17 GS.
... I can already tell that the new shock has more damping control as you gain speed.
I will give it workout this weekend two up, the main reason for getting it fitted in the first place.

Pleased that you feel the benefits but it can only improve when you fit the front as well.
My front end feel has been the biggest gain in thisupgrade.

You are probably right.
I have never had an issue with the front suspension, the bike felt out of balance with the rear being woefully under damped unless in dynamic damping and that was just solo, two up it was worse and undersprung as well and we only weigh 20st between us.

Bloody eck you are both featherweights, no wonder you only needed the 100 kgs weight at the rear, we have 29 stone to lug around, before the wardrobes get filled up...........:D

My bike '17 GS TE with factory lowered chassis. Touratech tractive D-ESA Stock spring, fitted new shock to rear only.
I went out today and put 130 two up miles on the bike, with full luggage fitted but not much in them, what a transformation compared to stock.
The rear spring can now cope with the load and maintains the correct ride height and the pogo effect has gone when the road damping was set in any of the 3 modes. Dynamic damping in all the modes works very well especially in Dynamic mode.
The front end feels a lot better as now the correct ride height keeps the front wheel loaded and when in Dynamic mode has improved the handling no end.
Will I fit a front shock ? No, the front is vastly improved because the rear is now fixed, with motorcycles it the tail that wags the dog.
The shocks settings it comes with are very good the only changes made are:
From std
SOLO one click less of Hi and Lo compression.
TWO UP std
FULLY LOADED plus one click of Lo compression.
Money well spent ? yes Sir.
AS the low chassis GS is the only ADV bike that fits me the likelyhood is that my next bike will be a 1250 in two or three years time, I will then get the shock serviced and fitted to the new bike and by them time I am done with that one I think I will have had my monies worth out of it, it will of course always have a resale value.

Recently fitted the Touratech Electronic suspension to my 1250 gs and have found it to be excellent ,well bloody brilliant.
Some will say too expensive for an upgrade but as I spend my cash on my bikes for me its a sensible way to go.
The new system keeps all the electronic connection with the bike and works as the standard system. The new ride now is superb and soaks up all that is thrown up at it with ease.
First thing I noticed was how the suspension seems to work faster with more fluidity of damping action and accurate compression , the front especially seems like its working faster to follow every lump , bump etc allowing you push harder and faster but with a feeling of complete comfort and road contact , even in Dynamic.
The rear works as the front again with precision and feel , both together are an impressive combination , no adjustment need yet on the Hi Lo settings.
One section of a road I ride has a lot of dips and rises which before on the standard systems made the bike buckle a bit and reducing you speed was the only option , with the new system it just absorbed it even to the point of road jumping and raising the front wheel over 90 + mph , never been able to that before on that road without the fear of crashing , not now.

So to evaluate the cost , 100% worth it , again some will say I would say that as i have spent the £2900 on it but i have always tried to be honest and give a true picture , and hope the new connection with the road surface may help me get better tyre mileage as well ...:thumb2

Hello. Could you please give an update on the shocks? Any issue? Your feedback? Is it worth the money?

I’m sure Stick will reply in due course though I know he’s now sold the bike last year.

I’ve got the Touratech ESA shocks fitted to my 1250 and delighted with them. I don’t even think about the suspension now, the bike just works. If I was going to analyse it, I really notice the biggest difference when loaded with panniers/top box on bumpy roads. Expensive upgrade but worth it, no issues to report

I realize this is an older thread but should still be relevant. This was my plan as well with my ESA equipped '21. The rear is woefully under-damped in Road, and acceptable, but only just, in Dynamic, my only two adjustment options on this model. I would prefer not to have to swap out both front and rears. I was planning to go with a Wilburs rear and see how the front does. It's good to see the front behaves better with a better rear unit.

Whilst I was happy with just changing the rear shock, a few months later and a big trip fully loaded I decided to pull the pin and do the front, well worth it.

Personally I would not go with the Wilbers as I believe you need to send your existing shock to them and they use the ESA to fit to their shock.

I would do your homework before going down that and find out what the true cost comes out at.

With a TT shock you can take it out and put the old one back in when you change/sell the bike. With the Wilbers you don't have thoe old shock to put back in

That's interesting to hear, about the Wilburs. I knew I'd have to send it off, but I thought I would have to do the same with the Tractive/TT version too. If not that would be a big incentive to go Tractive. I'll have to do some more research. Thanks for the feedback!

Not sure what setting you are running, but I have not had that issue at all on mine.

I actually run min preload most of the time and dynamic, that seems to work best for cruising in that 60-90 range which most of us frequent (obviously there are some big billy bullshitters that will claim to be riding everywhere at the max, but we all know the truth and see through the lies.

I’m a heavy lad too, so I’m intrigued that you find it so woefully inadequate :nenau

As others have said the upgrade is a worthwhile investment, it just made the bike work as it should have done from the start , I had always felt before I fitted the TT shocks that the 2016 gs I had before had great standard suspension ESA . The new models with the auto seemed to mess it up a bit and the new bike never felt as good . The TT allows you to adjust to how you want the bike and still have the modes , the system moves more fluid through better internals and with additional adjusters it’s just perfect . As for issues , mine did have the control box issue but was replaced with no problem from TT as they were aware of it .
Other than that only many miles of great controlled riding . You spend your money once so make it count .
Not a long reply as on mobile and on site between changeover . Hope this helps .

The TT shock comes with their own better quality ESA thus leaving your origional shock intact.

^ I understand Tractive makes the TT shock, if I purchase from a Tractive dealer is it also a complete unit, or am I back to taking the ESA off my original shock? Thanks guys

Noo. They are exactly same shocks but with much less money. Good news are that they have the new model, EX-change Pro for rear, that uses the factory preload adjuster and replaces everything else. I am going to order them tomorrow.

I would do some more homework on the full cost of purchasing, owning and disposing of the Tractive shock.

I have had two OE shocks replaced on two different bikes under warranty due to preload failure. I most certainly wouldn't put one on a top end shock.
There will be no warranty on any part you supply.
You would need to buy another OE shock if you want to sell/keep/transfer the Tractive exchage shock to another bike.

Find out the true cost of ownership.

Agree , TT units and the Tractive stand alone are the same , and also similar price as costed them when I bought mine at the time. The Ex change pro is as its name made up of both standard and tractive. Sometimes folks dont listen or read things enough.

Upgraded my 2014 GSA LC with new suspension ...Tractive ESA Front & Rear plug & Play..... and Remus exhaust system.

Some suspension stripdown pics ....

Not a difficult jobbie.... front strut is a bit a pain to in order to get the the top mounting bolt.:thumb2

What about feedback from Tractive suspensions? Are they worth the money?
