Touring chain

My now very old 1.5m (I think) 10mm square section link chain with Squire SS50 lock coupled with a rather excelled Roadlock on the front wheel, which I’ve carried over from my 1200LC GSA.
The chain is being carried in the official KTM tool tray made of aluminium plate mounted across the top of the official KTM/by GIVI pannier rack.

Will it stop a desperate thief to try and nick my bike, it might just make him walk on by. Should he chooses to accept the challenge, then it is sure will set him back some time, making plenty of nose in the process.

It has been used on a recent trip to France in Nimes. Big City, bike is out of sight, everybody is looking at the marvel on the other side of the road, you can't be to complacent, even with an old KTM with over 31k miles on the clock.

The only problem with using lamp posts is that eventually your chain ends up smelling of dog piss 🐩

It does live on the outside, get washed every time the bike does get washed and also when it is raining. Rather the chain was to smell of piss…

I have an oxford lock and chain ,i can wrap round the rear rack, when required,

However it comes with its own set of problems, ;)

After a LOT of research and head scratching, I've added to my bike security with the following layered security:

Main deterrent: Litelok X1 (on offer presently using discount code for £139 delivered). Bennetts Bike Social review swayed me against anything else for peace of mind.

Portable chain: Hiplok X chain: It may only have 10mm links but it's relatively light and easy to carry so will get used.

Hiplok have a rep for quality chains. I already have a decent 1.5m 12mm high security sold secured motorcycle gold BOLT chain so if really concerned about a trip, I can always resort to that, especially if parking up on dodgy areas, but at a shade under 5Kg it's just too bulky for everyday use.

Secondary locks: Alarmed disclocks, one for the front and one for the back wheel. I found a lightly used Oxford XA14 for reasonable money which seems decent, to pair with an older Titan alarmed disc lock.

Now I've got to carry a pocket full of keys:ROFLMAO:

You have the chain, but what about the lock ?

This may give food for thought

I have the lock (see above): Litelok X1 grinder resistant D lock. I also have a few spare mini D-lock/disc locks, as well as an Abus 35/70 which I bought some 25 years ago and is a great lock in itself (if heavy).
