First ride out today and it cut out a couple of times when I braked and came to a stop. I have balanced the TB's and it starts fine but very smelly, so I think maybe rich.
The fast idle switch works good for starting in full up position, but does nothing in middle position. (I don't know how to adjust it!!)
Ticks over nice and new plugs and coil packs, also valve clearances done......Very pleased with it until it cut out, started again immediately.
Would appreciate a bit sound advice, don't want to dive into anything.
Thought it may need the TPS adjusting.

how long was it not used?
how old is the fuel?
is the air intake blocked with spider web etc?

do you know what you are doing ? or are you learning from scratch ?
I don't know what I'm doing or I wouldn't ask for help, I would like the procedure explained. I need to be sure what I'm doing incase I wreck something. Its a 2003 twin spark.

What he means is what are your "abilities" with Tools and the use of them and Digital Multimeters??

Basically you roll down the rubber boot on the TPS

The you need to CAREFULLY work a paperclip up inside the rearmost wire (Red with White Stripe If I recall correctly! But its the rearmost one on all oilheads anyway )

Your digital Multimeter needs to be accurate ?? As I mentioned previously I had one that went boogaloo and showed approx 12 volts as about 16 volts

So possibly a brand new cheapie because that is likely to be in reasonable calibration, Test it on a batteries Car/motorbike at rest 12.2 ~ 12.8 usually

Now you are fairly sure that have a decent multimeter? connect the Positive Probe to the Paperclip (Have crocodile type connections on my probes which make it really easy) The negative probe to battery earth or wherever BUT It has to be a really good earth!

Select 20 V DC range

Turn on Ignition, Kill switch on, Sidestand up, in Neutral

You should now see a value in the screen if not? Check that the paperclip has a good connection

Once you have a value? Your target is 0.38

If you have to adjust the TPS?

Undo the screws but just enough that you can pivot the TPS with a little effort and GENTLY and small increments see if the value goes away or toward your target and gently keep working it towards it

Once you have your target value just NIP the wee bolts up GENTLY!!! Remember they are tiny so so don't go gorilla on them and don't Loctite them once you need to apply any force at all to make it turn ? just an 1/8th of a turn more

Once tight check values ? All Good? Open and close throttle a few times Value plus or minus 0.2??? That'll do!

Ignition off! Remove the probes and put GummiFlege on the rubber boot and roll it up again!

Job Done!

That's brilliant thank you, just what I needed, I've seen them doingvit on you tube, but I didn't know where the values had to be as the guy was Polish I think.

Just remembe that those values are Zero point 38 and not 3.8

Be gentle they are old and stuff gets stuck! Take a step back and Get a kettle of Boiling water and dribble it over the alloy by the TPS to swell it and aid in loosening screws

I guess Oilheads are the New Airheads as all the Old Air coolled bikes have been bought up and Cafe'd or Scrambler'd
