Not knowing the full extent of what the TPS does, is it possible that a badly adjusted TPS could affect the mixture?
My 2k 1150GS started missing when hot on Thursday. Thoughts of Hall sensors or coil going belly up passed through my mind as did the problem I had with the Datatool System 3 stopping the starter from turning when it was hot.
Anyway, I bridged out the Datatool hoping it was that at fault. Popped into town this morning and it started missing again. It also smelled very rich. I checked the plugs when I got home and they were indeed very black and sooty. Also, when I opened the throttle a minute fraction, and I mean as little as maybe 1/2° rotation of the twist grip, the engine would miss and die.
I checked the operation of the choke cable and that seems ok, I also put in a new air filter for good measure. I also decided, as I'd been reading about it the other day, to check the TPS voltage. Reading various info on the net I believe the TPS voltage should be between 0.3 and 0.4 volts DC, mine was reading 1.215 volts?!?!?
I managed to set it to 0.37v and it seems to pick up smoother but haven't had chance to check it on the road yet.
Could this be the cause or could it be the dreaded Hall sensors or am I missing something else completely?
Your thoughts, comments, help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Mick

check it on the road first, try 1 thing then check, before going on to something else

Well!! I just got back from a good spin out, got it nice and hot and...

It's like a new bike!
Never missed a beat, pulls cleanly from 2000rpm in top (E-box), runs sweeter throughout the rev range, pulls like a train now; and checked the plugs: they're clean and a perfect 'biscuit brown'.
I don't know if it was the new air filter or setting up the TPS position, but it's made a hell of a difference! I suppose I could put the old air filter back in just to see how it runs, but as it's running so well now, while it ain't broke - I ain't gonna mess with it! :D

great news, its probably the TPS, perhaps it got knocked? I know you should not have had the 1+ volts there.
