Tracer 9 GT Plus

at a price. The base Tracer is £11k. With the better quality components, add another £4900. It's good there is a choice but the Tracer GT+ is priced in V100 Mandello & R1250RS territory.

Yet has technology that neither has.
Different audience too. I have zero interest in either the Guzzi or the RS , the latter with an old motor that’s about to be updated.

as I said, it's good there is a choice as we all have preferences. I think it is a shame that Yamaha has abandoned shaft drive as that is one of the factors that I like about the other two. I guess that would make the Tracer an 18k bike, though, as well as add 30kg. Some of the tech on the GT+ is of limited interest to me personally, especially the comms and complex graphics.

Over the last 5 years they've added tech and apparently refinement, (and luggage with the GT). But has Yamaha increased the price quite a bit too. Tracer 9 GT lists for $16,000 including freight (but not tax) here, and this is for a 2022. Apparently they didn't sell their 2022's out so didn't bring 2023's over.

I dunno wessie.....given it's a transverse engine, shaft drive would require 2 power robbing (and costly) 90* bevel gear sets. Also a quality chain and sprockets can last 30-40,000 miles now with very little maintenance. Heck BMW service schedule for the new R1300 calls for the drive shaft to be lubed (I think every 12K) and replaced at 50,000 miles. That's not much less maintenance than a chain at all yet undoubtedly more expensive.

What’s better than farkles ?…..FREE farkles !

A quick vid on the TFT and controls , though with my presenting skills, you’ll probably end up none the wiser

The tiny joystick on the left handlebar looks a right royal pain in the arse.
Just too much tech and fine tuning these days, and it leaves me stone cold

Never considered suspension settings on my bouncy old twin shock bikes, though I may have dug out the C spanner if I thought a well nourished bird may be riding pillion. ;)

It’s very simple to use . Certainly easier than faffing with a c spanner

I wish more bikes were belt drive. Must be much cheaper to manufacturer than a shaft, no mess and very little maintenance.

My last 1200 GS never got adjusted from the day i bought it, and the rear shock still lost all it's damping after 7000 miles and needed a re build.
Not saying for one minute that Yamaha would be as cheap and crap as the Sachs unit.
But I'm happy with my fully adjustable WP Explor ... click, click, click.

Loving the GT+.
Not ridden it much due to weather and being on other side of world for work.
Fitted the laminar lip screen , JK3D seat mod bar risers, rad guard and tail tidy .Plus my Peak Design phone mount.
Will get dealer to fit rear rack and spots, as couldn’t get access to fit rack despite it supposedly being easy !!
But the bike is fabulous . Very comfy now, sublime quick shifter and motor.

SW Motech City Pro WP tank bag and ring turned up today.
I’ve used SW Motech bags for years but the best bit about this one is it’s fully waterproof so no need for a separate rain cover

R and G do an even smaller one but I stuck with the Yamaha one as it was free.

You managed to scratch the paint with the tank bag I see! :augie

Nice looking bike and reassuringly Yamaha.
I think they have overtaken Honda and left the other 2 in their wake when it comes to quality.

You see more than me then as I certainly didn’t

the photo of the tank horseshoe thing seems to show a white stripe but it looks like the edge of a clear sticker. Just above the phone reflection

Mark does alright reviewing bikes IMO. He seemed to cover all the tech and goodies this bike has, which are many. Quite a nice sport tourer, too bad we don't get the Plus version. Unfortunately there are too many leftover "non +" models here so Yamaha is focused on moving those.

Had a test ride on a Tracer 9 GT+ today…… I think I will be trading in my Super Tenere! I have been thinking of getting a smaller, lighter bike for a while as Mrs. Longdog fractured a few vertebrae and no longer rides pillion. I have been looking at Ducati Multistrada 950S but this Tracer 9GT+ is rather good!
