I am trying to upload a track that I have defined in detail in mapsource and use it as a route on the Zumo 550.

The track is a mixture of roads and byways (off road as far as Garmin is concerned) that I want to follow on a trip.

I can uplaod it OK and then import it as a route. The problem is that it seems to randomly drop points in the route, and unfortunately at times the important start point of a byway is missed.

The track has just under 1200 points in it and I used a lot of points to "shape" the off road sections.

Does anyone know why it might be dropping these points, or is there a different method of acheiving this?

Max no of points in a route is around 200. Either reduce the no of points in your track to 200 or split it into several shorter tracks.

I would suggest marking the start of the byway with a waypoint. It should then be easy to find or even route to it should you need to.

I'm not as advanced in Mapscource, can u briefly explain how to turn a track ( mainly off road into a route on my Zumo550

I save the track as a GPX file in Mapsource to my computer hardrive - give the track a useful name as later that is what will appear as a selection choice (the track name not the file name). I attach my Zumo which appears as a new drive on the computer and copy the GPX file into the GPX directory on the Zumo (you can acheive the same end by using the "transfer" menu option in Mapsource)

When you disconect the Zumo from the computer it automatically detects that there is new data and prompts you to "manage now", select "yes", select Triplogs, check the tick box beside the track to import (or select all if you have more than one) then hit the import button. You can then go into "Where to" and select the "routes" option where you should see your new track uploaded as a route.

Set the navigation to "Off Road" and follow the pink line. Zumo will give you turn instructions on the road sections and an arrow on the off road sections.

BEWARE - the import process can introduce unexpected results
