My bike normally lives on knobbly tyres in the dirt but thinking of rekindling my love of trackdays. Previous road tyres have been Pirelli 2’s na more recently anlas Capra RD, up for a new set on my road wheels, longevity is not an issue just ultimate grip.

On a GS? Are you nuts?

Used to use Super Corsas on CBR 600s and Daytona 675
not sure they make them in the correct size for a GS but if they did they would be a decent choice but then again if full slicks are available and its for a spare set of wheels

Metzler racetec are pretty good
Michelin power GP also
In fact all the hyper sport type of tyres will be brilliant on a GS on track if the size is available

Yep - biggest issues is tyre size.
I tracked a (way less powerful) Hexhead a couple of times on Dunlop Trailsmart successfully.
Weight of the bike becomes a slight issue for those tyres (and brakes) after a bit. More road focussed tyres might react a bit better.

I've met people on track on big-ish traillie-type bikes on completely random tyres embarassing bods on track-ready bikes anyway. The limit is almost always the rider :D

Really is no need for slicks on a GS, the ground clearance is a limiting factor on cornering long before the grip gives up, even on standard conti trail attacks

Absolutely. This was on the original Bridgestone Deathwings many years ago around Knockhill. I actually managed to get around the outside of what I thought was a GSXR750 on the Railway Straight. He got me back under brakes into the hairpin. Then I pitted and discovered he was on a GSXR1000 and couldn't really ride it.

The last one I did was on my old F800 GS and that was on K60’s

Roadtec 01s could be a decent tyre.

@gb is that one of Robert’s days (judging by the sticker)?

Metzeler Sportec M9 or if you cant get them Conti Road Attack 4 are good track day tires for a GS…

I have seen a GS on Metzeler M9RR tyres, if you really think you need some sporty rubber then there are a few options for the 19" front wheel.

The GS and GSA are far more capable than they should be, if that makes sense? I used to do track day instruction on my S1000RR and when I finally decided to give up my decades of riding sports bikes I went to the other end of the spectrum and got myself a GSA. I was due to do more instruction but now had a GSA, although I already knew how capable they were due to someone I know who demonstrated just how capable they were, so I was in no doubt that it’d be ok on the track - it was! It obviously wasn’t as quick around the track as my S1000RR was, but it takes me back to my opening sentence.

Pop some tyres on that you’re happy with and have fun. Boxerlust is spot on with his recommendations.

I’ve done plenty of track days on my 1150.
Conti Road Attacks are a blooming good tyre for stickiness. It’s what I have on it now too.

If you want ultimate trackday grip Dunlop Sportsmart TT are available in big Adv bike sizes (19/17”) . The rears don’t last long on straight roads & should be run at a fair bit lower pressures than most other road tyre brands (see Dunlop website for guidance) . I ran these on my V4S Multi and the loved being on the side of the tyre with throttle open, unfortunately road use squared the rear off in about 1500ish miles, front hardly looked worn, so probably 2 rears to every front. Another alternative is Dunlop Mutants, lot more wet grip & mileage for not much less grip, same like to be on the side of the tyre feel (on a V4 multi) . Both have stiff carcasses so give lots of steering feel at correct (lower pressures) . Your tyre fitter may curse you.

Ultimate TD grip with the Sportsmart TT ? The new metzeler tourance next 2 already have enough grip to grind the boxes on a GSA but in the fast group on a track day they probably cant take the heat for long…Metzeler M9RR are plenty good for the track and have the advantage over the Dunlops that they are also great in the rain and are also useful everyday in colder conditions…Same is true for a Conti RA3 or 4 which are really sporty touring tires…Limiting factor for a GS are more the front rotors that can warp if you go to tracks where long straights lead to a tight/slow turn because of combination of weight and smallish 305 rotor$$$…Change to 320 is advisable here or getting a S1000XR…🤣
