Traction Control Yes or NO

Just ask Dani Pedrosa what he thinks about electronic gizmos on motorbikes - GP practice session at Phillip Island

b*llocks to the lot of you. i have an 07 GS with traction control and abs and I lit up both in the first three months of owning it.

we have had enormous amounts of rain this summer, its all very well to say 'a good rider can do better' but i think its plain tosh. I have ridden a GS with ABS and a GS without - the one without ABS was lethal by comparison!

the traction control got lit up when i went across a submerged (+4 inches of water) elevated section of the A40.

buy it! you'll only regret it later if you don't as you can't add them later. get the tyre pressure thing as well, that works and has saved me the arse of checking manually...

You were going to fast if such a small amount of water made the bike take the throttle control from you, maybe you did'nt see the water, in that case you would be better off spending the cash on a HID conversion and extra spotlamps, or if you did see it, but guessed it was ok to ride through at that speed, then possibly you could benifit from training, to make you a safer rider, or you ignored it because you have traction control and would have adjusted your speed, if your bike was without traction control, in which case, you would be better off spending on the other two anyhow :nenau

or have i missed something out

or have i missed something out

yeah the bloke asked a question about what ASC was like on an R1200GS. you don't have either. nor have you ever seen me ride..

this site is one of the most bizarre i have ever been on.

i think he also asked wether it was worth the money and a usefull safety feature and i pointed out that better lights and improving riding skills would benifit every yard travelled and not just when things go wrong, but that is his choice as was yours, you stated that a gs without Abs is lethal in comparasen to one with Abs, , I don't need to see you ride, you told me in your posting that you could do with improving your riding skills, or better lights would be of more benifit, if not already fitted, its true i have neither a 1200Gs or traction control, bikes are not lethal, they don't do anything without a rider :mmmm

So I take it you are NEVER make errors and you don't wish when you do (not IF), something fixes your error.

I also take it that you don't accept that feeling the bike took control (believe me I've seen it and it shows), is not enough to "teach" you how not to do it again. That is debatable but I think you are still taught by doing it. A LED tells you something is wrong, the bike groans and still you DO fill the bike starts to slip (then catches again). Scary enough.

when i had a Busa, i could make the rear wheel spin at will wet or dry, its just something you live with, you slow down, you feed in the power slowly, its called skill, yes i make errors, but i am able to operate the throttle, its not just on or off,if the back end steps out, youll learn much more than if the bike takes over from you again better lights and better training are more worthwhile investment;)

training costs more and you need it anyway

experience means you react and then live to digest what happened - but nobody warranties the second part

I didn't have an ASC bike all my life (well only the last two months)... same with ABS (last 5 years)... I survived before those, but still I am glad I now have them (and I am quite more experienced than 5 years ago)

:rob agreed

you pays your money and make your choice

the reason i don't have Abs on my 1150Gs is that i don't like the servo brakes, my R1100rt has Abs, as they seem to have dropped the servo, then its worthwile getting Abs again imho, as you will probably get the money back on sale, with the ASc, for me personally, i would'nt get it, i would fit a 50w HID low beam and ff50 spotlamps, it makes such a difference on the road, i've stopped being invisable in traffic during the daytime and can ride at daylight speed during darkness and that has got to be safer :nenau

For me BMW factory options are important............the more the better. They fit, they work (and if they don't BMW will get it sorted) and add value come re-sale time. I prefer not to fit after martket gear.

I didn't have the option of ASC on my 07 GSA but I would have bought it if it was available.

we're agreeing, but you can add all those later, whereas ABS, ASC, tyre bollocks can only be added when you order the bike.

i ride daily, i don't see how letting the bike measure the tyre pressures for me instead of getting out the meter is somehow indicative of poor riding. i've ridden for twenty years without incident, the past twelve daily in London. i've had advanced lessons, thank you, i don't see how that is incompatible with wanting a bike that does ABS (its the linked braking part that I think makes it more effective) and ASC.. i am humble and the bike is big. i ride like a girl compared to most, but i think thats whats kept me alive for this long without scrape. (i've never even dropped a bike). i want every trick on it and every little bit of help it can give me every day.

There is already too much gadgetry on the bike. It's a personal thing but I wouldn't want ABS, ASC or Anything electronic.

If you plan to tour to remote parts then it's something else to go wrong. Bring back carbs I say!

if you don't want anything electronic you are DEFINITELY looking at the wrong bike

So there is ABS, TPC, ASC, BC, Alarm, Heated Grips, Oilcheck, Service indicator. Shall we place bets ESA will follow sooner rather than later ? :D

Perhaps I am, but if these bikes are designed for round the world trips they should be robust and a little more basic. Like the 1150. :thumb

So I either regress to an 1150 or head to KTM. :nenau And what's with the 08 model using the RT motor? 98 octance and all that; IMO they are starting to develop bikes for tarmac trips in the first world.

I'll have to ponder the bike decision. :augie

Anyway, I am digressing. Still love the 12. :thumb2

My bike has automatic advance/retard, unlike earlier models that had a manual control. I wish I was a good enough rider to manage the control myself, but in the meantime I'm happy to rely on the bike to do it for me. I'm sure others here shun the woeful additonal expense, complication and unreliability...

with a few proper lessons young man you wouldn't need such a feature!

:rob

Quite right but there is a balance somewhere between loading everything imaginable on a bike and the alternative. I'm thinking something along the lines of the 1100 / 1150 or a KTM 950 isn't too much to ask.

Maybe I've got the wrong impression but BMW seem to be in the former category of loading there bikes up with everything.

you're so right, but find a modern vehicle sans electronics? almost impossible. you end up thinking in for a penny...
