Training to become a CBT instructor / trainer /coach

Have you gone door knocking, literally? Businesses on an industrial estate, shops (delivery driver stuff) etc etc. One reads or sees local news articles all the time about companies taking on new staff only to be let down within days...someone taking the time to actually go doing a yosser Hughes....'Gizza job !' may strike a chord with someone ?
(Whenever we are back in the UK, we always remark how many shops have 'staff wanted' in their windows/doors)

have you considered signing up to a silver surfer type course at a local college or maybe something through the Job Centre?

most driving jobs will now involve using some form of hand held device to manage deliveries, from directing you to the next address, confirming delivery by scanning a barcode and taking a photo, and logging any breakages or items the customer declines

have you considered the care sector? Some jobs require "working towards" NVQ level 2 (adults) or 3 (children) but you can work as a personal assistant (PA) for an individual with nothing more than a DBS check. This does not have to be personal care, but helping someone get to the bank, go shopping. The person needing care would get a Direct Payment from the council and then use that to employ you. If you worked for more than one person you could remain self employed. When I commissioned this sort of thing we paid a minimum of £12.50 an hour but that was a while ago as I changed jobs. We always had a shortage of PAs. Think about the people you could work with, kids, disabled people or older people and then search for "personal assistant jobs place and sector". You might find your council has an "introduction" service to match potential carers with clients.

I had no idea such things existed. We don't have a local college, nearest is 20 miles away in any direction. Job centre apparently is in Burton-on-Trent

I have to some extent, yes. That is how I found this CBT instructor post - but it is going to be March before there is any actual work, until then it is learning as and when they have students to learn on. I went in on Friday, only for the students to not show up - we had got all the cones out in place and even got the bikes out in readiness! It happens, I suppose, but there was no communication from the students to say they couldn't make it.

local library might have details of local groups e.g. evening class in a local school or community centre

I googled Uttoxeter library and this came up
https://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/Libraries/Library-services/computers/IN42Surf.aspx which gives me a link to

https://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/Ed.../ICT-Courses/Digital-and-Computer-Skills.aspx
I can't see the locations they work from but there is an email address for enquiries at the bottom of the page.

Potential employers love to see people being proactive to improve their skillset and they might just take a punt and admit you to their induction programme.

We have groups here in Welshpool and we are a market town less than half the size of Uttoxeter, so there must be something.

Here you go a digital & computer skills course at Burton college 10 miles from Uttoxeter.
Looks like there are free places, contact act them and see what they say.

Thank you very much. But Burton college is a good bit further than 10 miles! It is just over 50 miles round trip to the CBT centre in Burton.

whereabouts in Uttoxeter are you? I come from Burton to Uttoxeter town centre via Marchington and it is just over 10 miles.

Not sure how you have got to the £85 day wages, but if that's true and after all other expenses such as keeping your bikes in tip top shape then its a poor wage.
A mate of mine has just quit his 12 hour shift warehouse job to become an Amazon flex driver for £100 a day to start with.
Going forward he plans on buying his own van to earn more money (Amazon currently take £400 a month for the van given to him)
Its worth looking into, and now will be a good time to start coming up to Christmas!

OK...so IMHO you need to go back to more door knocking...it came up trumps with the CBT training...could well do the same for some other job.
Amongst the usual recruitment agencies....the Govt website shows a 40 jobs in Uttoxeter.

Looking on a map, you've got Stafford, Burton and Stoke within 20-25 miles...I suspect they're going to be the places you'd have to travel to for work ?
Stoke...400+
Burton...200+
Stafford...200+

CV

Take leaf out of Rachel Reeves book and embellish it a bit

And just because you have been self employed should not bar you from claiming benefits

If you are struggling finding your way around that system then go to CAB and ask for help

What did youvtype to find that?

Jobs in uttoxeter (Stoke, Stafford etc)

If I was back in the UK, I'd happily ride down and spend a day with you rooting about online for jobs...apologies but I'm 750 miles away in SW France.
My apologies if this comes across badly but....I feel you're just 'down' about the whole thing and it may well come across in both applications and/or face to face. You need to sit down and have a good look at how you may be coming across to prospective employers. All the things 'they' rattle on about when moaning about the lack of good candidates, you will have in spades as someone has put earlier in the thread. Punctuality, dedication to the task, politeness, get the job done attitude etc....it just needs to be got across to your new boss !

Right, I filled in the form on your Gvt link with my 'skills' - 'no results found' I don't know how to fill the form in to get past the filtering system. But I have signed up for the email alerts for any jobs.

That is the rate the centre has told me when I went to see them. I looked it up on the DVSA and they say £12.50/hour on there, the centre works on a 7 hour day. They pay 7 hours at £12.50 = £87.50. By the time I factor in fuel to get there and home, they pay fuel for the on road portion of the day (about 20 miles of road circuit), so I just used £85 as the nearest round figure to what is paid.

You obviously need some help.
It has been mentioned a few times...Citizens Advice Bureau for starters....basic IT courses, some help with sorting a CV as a main priority (being 'self employed' is a meaningless nonsense term....you'd need to do exactly what most others do and get everything you've done on paper. What you may view as a simple act can be written up to read as though you ran a Nasa rocket launch...but needs doing carefully. (Am I right in thinking you ran safety boats at sites on waterways and rivers?)
I'd wager that there'll be folk on here who do recruitment on a regular basis...hopefully, one or more will read this and chip in with an offer of help in getting down on paper what they'd like to see...as well as what would immediately put them off (Huge hints of negativity coming thru in what is written for starters!)
There's lots of help out there....you have to look for it, then seize it

KR

If you want me to pop down and help with the IT form filling malarkey give me a bell.

Also have spare laptop available and iPad still if they are needed

Keep chin up

I've just looked at a couple of jobs on the UKGov website.....both take you off the Gov site to 1, its own site and 2, a recruitment site.
A carer role and a cleaner role....both on c £11-£12 an hour...permanent contracts.
The cleaner role as the following criteria. An honest, well worded CV would cover all the below with ease. The actual responsibilities are what home owners do week in week out...the requirements you'd hit dead easily. If you and your boat aren't on site...the work stops....teamwork. If you and the boat are late...a multimillion pound project is paused...working within tight time schedules.
View it as a game. if you don't fully understand the rules, you can't play the game properly....know the(ir) rules, play the game.

What concerns me with this Si is the school did not use this as an opportunity to train you 1 on 1. Regardless of the student not turning up, you were there and so was their instructor. They should have used the training pad and 125 bike to go through delivering the exercises in Element A, B and C, the instructor could have acted as a student and got you to deliver to him and then deliberately throw in faults for you to identify, this is how we train instructors. This was an opportunity lost and on our telephone conversation I did point out that training you should not just be a case of you watching an instructor delivering a CBT, they should be putting more effort in with you. You should demand more for the money you are paying them. If I were you I'd have a chat with the ATB owner and assert that you want to be trained and not just be expected to watch other instructors, that is a lazy way of doing it and you are actually training yourself.

Does the ATB charge students up front? At our school all training is paid for before the training starts, if someone is a no-show then they lose their money unless they are ill and produce a doctor's note. If they pay on the day then it makes it easy for students to just not bother if they decide the weather is a bit iffy or they had a few beers the night before. The school and the instructor lose money. If that is the way they operate then they should change their business model. After all, if a person is sent on a training course from work or goes on a college course then the fees are paid up front. Motorbike training is no different, unless they specifically want cash payments so it doesn't go into the books - if so then your alarm bells should be ringing regarding their business practices I'm afraid.
