Trieste to Istanbul - route help

Looking at two week trip via train to Trieste and riding through Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia and Greece to Istanbul.

Any recommended routes or 'must sees' gratefully received.

did exact this way last summer (arround adriatic sea).
croatia u must go seaside.
must see Dubrovnik
from dubrovnik to pristina road is in good contition but slow
monte negro beautiful and interesting plc.
i did serbia kosovo instead going albania. more adv and no problems
(slept in serbia and spend a day in kosovo transit).
through fyrom to gr (thessaloniki)
then istanbul
 
If going straight to Istanbul, there is nothing to see between here and Thessaloniki....so you might as well plan for a ride straight through. On the other hand you could dip south after crossing the border and head for Galipoli, where there was once a bit of a fight between the Turks and everyone else. This is well worth the trip if you have time.
