Trip August 2026 - Stelvio Pass, Davos, Eagles Nest

Here is the interesting bit of the trip. After Eagles Nest I'll be making my way home so haven't planned anything. I'll just see where I end up at the end of the day.
My routes are Highway to get me to somewhere interesting and then A and B type roads.
I've managed to make contact with an old ski buddy who it also a biker, so he's going to show me some good roads around the Davos region.
Insurance is confirmed. Recovery I'm already covered via RAC should the worse happen and that includes getting the bike home if need be.
Only thing I have left is to pack but I'll do that next week. Other than that I'm ready to go and anything else I'll work out on the road

An interesting read as I'm on the same ferry next week with a similar jaunt. Some great advice about distance v timings. I used to plan meticulously, now its a day at a time with with only a rough idea what roads places to see etc. and Trivago/ booking.com about 3/4 pm for somehwere to stay. My main thing .. having learned the hard way.. is dont turn the trip into what I call a dinosaur trip ie a 'Monty Sore Arse'

It's getting there. Adjusting routes and timings here and there. Currently working out the best places for me to stop over. Camping or hostels/hotels. Filling in all the blanks is a lot of work lol.

Even tho I want to just turn up and wing it, I feel I should have a back up plan just in case. Those pesky YouTubers make it look way too easy

Wing it me and the better half have just done 20 days of winging it around Europe on the Harley road king.... Wrong bike to take granted.

However with the advent of hotels being so easy to find on Google maps, booking.com and the like, winging it really is easy.

Just a couple of points worth remembering.
Passing through Germany on auto bahns is easy peasy, depending on your arse you can do 600miles + in a day.

Going over alpine passes all day... 200 miles tops as you will be stopping.

If you head into Italy.. forget about road manners, just ride like a local otherwise it will be very stressful.

If your staying in Switzerland be aware of the coppers, they aren't fans of loud pipes or speed. Also budget plenty for food and hotels. Double what you think.

If you head into Albania and Montenegro you can bribe the constabulary. Don't ask how I know

What an absolute blast.
Visited my old ski haunts and went riding with an old ski buddy who also bikes.
