Trip Up North

I had a free day off yesterday so decided to see what it was like up North. I haven't been back for some time (Ten years+) so saw it as an excuse to give the GSA a run out. Plus its summer isn't it!

Heres the start. Just North of Whitchurch. Nearly nine in the morning. Its grey, spitting and only 16 degrees. Not looking good.

Heres the route. Well the interesting bit. It was a 150 mile slog up the A34/M40/A43/M1 to Derby then the fun began.

Heres the start of the fun. The A6. Not a big road (As in wide) but some good little twists with some nice straight bits. All done within the posted speed limit. Most of it was 40 or 50 mph limits which makes it all a bit pedestrian.
Strangely all the little side roads with no road prefix letter and barely suitable for a horse and cart were National Speed Limit roads!

Not a road but something different. You don't see houses with cliffs behind them where I live.



I didn't expect to see this on my route. Chatsworth House. Mighty impressive.

I did my best to remember where I took the photos but this set escape me. It was a nice hill though and time for a coffee break at the side of the road.

Now approaching the A625 near Calver.



I took this photo to try and show the interesting rock formations on top of the hill. There is a massive slab on top of those rocks. Any geologists know how it ended up there.

The first lake. Ladybower Reservoir. Its quite big and seems to be slightly low at the moment.







The next road is Snake Pass.

I can't believe I only took one snap of Snake Pass.



It was a good blast though. Not too much traffic and what there was, was easily passed.

Not exactly sure of the location of these roads. Possibly still Snake Pass.

Next we have the B6105 North of Glossop.









Torside Reservoir

The A6024 was a little gem of a road.



Snowpoles can be seen at the side of the road ahead. This would be a good Tour of France type of cycling road.

Holme Moss Transmitting Station. It was very windy up this hill. Fantastic vista though.

Finally the end of my route North. Above Hebden Bridge looking towards Pecket Well.

Then I turned around and went home.But because I didn't have to stop and take pictures it was a little quicker and more fluid.

Total distance travelled. 435 Miles. About £70 in petrol. Computer said average mpg was 44.8. The motorway seemed to kill the average mpg.
