So Triumph make a move with 'lighter, more agile, faster, more flexible' Explorer in 20 ltr and 30 ltr models.

The promotional stuff clearly states it is better than the GS! Surprise, surprise.

Price wise its £350 cheaper comparing similar specs, as Triumph has more stuff as standard.

Any views on its chances at taking share from the GS?

Like the 10K service intervals, I do about 12K per year, but for me it’s the dealer back up, let’s see eh :nenau but tempted to hang for the 100th anniversary (boxer engine) GSA in 2023.

According to the respective website figures for the bike I would look at as a direct replacement for my GS are

Triumph GT Pro

148bhp
130 Nm
245 Kg

BMW 1250GS

136bhp
143 Nm
Wet weight 249kg

Not a lot in it...I will take a test ride once they out but will probably wait to see what BMW do next
I don't want a 30 litre tank in either guise

The blue is quite nice on the Triumph and it looks like you can control your GoPro

18 inch rear...hmmmm.....no - 150/70R18
10K or annual service....yes.....BM should step up to 10k service show some faith

Triumph servicing costs make the GS seem a bargain!

In my neck of the woods, the biggest challenge for selling Triumph is demonstrated by three mates of mine that has owned 4 Tiger 1200.
Amongst them they have 3 total engine breakdowns (as in lots of internal damage requireing lenghty repairs,) and 2 out of three has returned home from central Europe vacation in a towtruck. (# 3 has avaoided bringing his bike that far from home and was able to pick up his bike with his own trailer...
All three are now happy GS owners...

Looks wise it doesn't make me want to rush to my local dealer. I wonder if this will be a bit of deja vue where like when they released the exploder they have initial sales success until the next generation of GS comes out, when normal service is resumed. Having test riden a few ADV Triumph triples in the past they never really appealed to me. They claim they're the best of both worlds but I thought it was more a compromise, didn't have the broad spread of torque a twin has nor the top end rush of an IL4.

I think it just looks a bit “spindly” - thin with no road presence. Just my 2C.

In the video IIRC they claim 17kg saving over the GS in 30 litre / Adventure GS model. But weights are a smoke and mirrors kind of explanation.....think they say with all accessories included.

The important thing to me would be how is the weight distribution.

The thing that impresses me most about the GS is the flickability when it’s on the move.

Contrast that to the Sprint GT that I had previously and it’s like chalk and cheese. I used to come home from a long ride on that and have to go and lie down!

The GSA doesn't appeal to me neither does Triumphs version, the GT Explorer

Also, the previous explorer was quite heavy on the fuel. I don't buy a bike for economy, it's a luxury item for me. But 14000 miles in 20 months adds up.

Road presence ?

It’s not a bloody HGV ? Spindly could be taken as lighter than a bloated GSA ?

Competition is healthy...

Should make BMW up its game. Agree 10k servicing should be the norm. I do hope the new 1300 is more reliable and corrosion resistant as it will be my last BM :D

I asked that question in the comments section of the you tube video. MCN replied, 'The engine has moved forwards in the chassis thanks to a new split radiator and Triumph say this and other mass centralisation work should address the issue. We won't know for sure until we ride it whether it's worked though.'

I get my GS next week to replace my Tiger 1200. The servicing is not as it appears - you have to service it every year regardless of mileage

What gets me is they don't cant the engine forwards thus lowering the cog. Look how the K1600 is canted forwards, making it easy to scrape the pegs as the bike was (relatively) agile, flickable as 2 tons can be. The last Explorer was top-heavy compared to the GS

I’m not too fussed about the new Tiger based on my ride on the 900 GT pro, my GS comes next week and the reasons I bought it are the same now as when I test rode it - it’s an amazing bike but then so are lots of others!
For me the 900 T plane was too vibey, can’t see the 1200 being any different.
So no buyers remorse for me, my Tiger 1200 is going!

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but the looks alone fail for me. Nice try but no cigar.

Interesting re vibes as the 'thrum' of a triple, all smooth and naturally balanced, was the appeal for me so making it like a twin doesn't make sense to me, but variable valve adjustment does for low-end grunt but keeping the smoothness!

Before my 1250GSA I had a 2016 Triumph 1200 Explorer. My first thoughts about this are, I preferred the look of my old one over this new one. I'm not sure how I feel about the super high level exhaust and on the Explorer version the side pods look like an after thought. Overall it just looks tiny which for someone my size is a big deal as I tend to make most bike look small.

That said, even after 2 years of owning the GSA I still preferred my Explorer for ergonomics, comfort and wind protection. I don't miss the top heavy mass though.

Maybe it'll grow on me when I see one in the flesh but I'm in no hurry to jump ship back to Triumph.
