I'm plotting my European sojourn and working out routes. Two of the places I want to go are Lake Bled in Slovenia and Plitvice in Croatia.

But - when I search for these using the "find" function mapsource can't find them. If I go to the place manually using zoom or by entering co-ordinates there they are, plain as day, on the map! So whay can't "find" find them?

I've got these now but it's going to be very tedious if I have to look up the co-ordinates on Google Earth for each way point I'm going to.

Also, I get more road detail when I hide GPS detail from the view menu.

Any ideas?

Don't think that you can download maps for Croatia & Slovenia.

Have a look at THIS THREAD. I had a similar problem to you but regarding Poland. This was with City Navigator V6 IIRC ie before Poland was included in later maps.

I'm using v9 - should have mentioned it.
It has the maps for Croatia and Slovenia

The problem is caused by Garmin software using two maps. A basemap and the detailed maps in City navigator.

It is only possible to use FIND for places that appear on the detailed maps. There are no detailed maps for many countries in Eastern Europe and where they don't exist Mapsource (and the GPS) uses the basemap.

If a location only appears on the basemap you need to click on it with the waypoint tool to make it a waypoint or destination.

There are more problems associated with using Mapsource or the GPS in Eastern Europe, particulalry in countries that have partial detail mapping.

This is explained in a page on my site.

You may be able to see the maps on the screen, but I'm pretty sure that you can't download any maps for those areas. Ie what you can see is a basemap, and I don't think you can search on a basemap.

It's the same problem that prompted my previous thread on Poland.

Thanks Andy - that explains the Slovakia and Croatia, the page on your website is very useful too. When I was changing scales and detail got less with a bigger scale I wondered if it was because the basemap was more detailed than the detailed map!:thumb2
