Trying to replace Stolen F800GS Trophy

Sadly this is my 1st post as its for all the wrong reasons!
I got myself a lovely new Trophy back in feb, within days of release and at a cracking discount (double whammy as I got a nice cash lump off and the dealer forgot to put the OTR charge on), and had a great few months riding in and out of town until disaster struck and some scumbags pinched it a month ago. (reg no LC61KGZ if anyone spots it out and about)

Anyway I'm now fighting the insurance company to get a decent amount of money out of them to put towards a replacement (getting there) and also BMW who are behaving a little strangely IMHO. The problem that I am finding with the dealers is that there are a few Trophy's about that are ex demo, of the same spec I had, but they all seem to want stupid money for them and are not prepared to come down on price by more than a couple of hundred quid.

This is really confusing me as the new F800GS is being launched now, and I would have thought that they would be wanting to shift this stock and move on. Having had a chat with a couple of salesmen it seems that they are quite happy to sit on these ex demo bikes until someone wants to pay what they want (only a £200-£300 pounds less than a brand spanking new model bike).

Is this usual behaviour? or has someone done something to their water cooler?

If anyone has any tips, comments, a nice F800GS (Trophy Preferably...I like the colour!) for sale I would love to hear about it!

try posting a wanted ad ,in the for sale /wanted section ,you never know .
allso i test rode a trophy ,from SBW HERTEFORDSHIRE,and they still might have it ,its worth giving them a ring ..
sorry to hear about your loss ,if all else fails buy a normal one and have it sprayed
 
As I'm sure you are aware all new BMW bikes now come datatagged, I imagine that would encourage the baddies to pick someone else's bike (assuming the scumbags can actually read - unlikely I know)

Also please consider a Tracker device - I bought one at VW show and it was half price ( at £125) and has a £6.99 monthly subscription. This device
works on quad bikes, , industrial plant, cars and motorcycles and is a gps locator. The bike gets nicked, you report it to the police and the tracker company tells them the location within a few metres.

Before you lose another one that may be worth considering.....

Sorry to hear of your loss, please don't become one of the 40% of owners who give up biking after their machine is stolen.
 
Will defiantly not be giving up biking! May only have been at it for 18 months but after all the time and money I've spent leaning I'm not giving up due to scumbags. It's also good fun and beats the traffic!

Will also be getting a tracker on whatever I get next as I've now lost the NCD I had and will need to do something to try and get the insurance down.

I'm sorry nobody has an idea why BMW are so tight on their ex demos, I tried a tiger 800xc and the dealer came out with a £2300 discount on a bike with 3k miles on it, without any haggling, or a new model imminent.

Anyway going to go and see what the Japanese have to offer before making a decsision on what to go for next, but so far 800gs>800xc.
 
BMW don't discount much

The Trophy is desirable & with the new model arriving, this will increase it's cache

Used Trophies will sell for strong money

Live with it

Does it have to be a BMW?

plenty of other bikes out there the Triumph 800XC is a lovely bike
 
Although I do like the colour scheme of the Trophy, I think I'd rather have the new model. It's not like the old model will ever be worth more at the end of the day.

1150GSA SE in white is worth more than the Black or Silver ones now, so don't bet on it
 
The desirability of a new bike is always nice...I do like the new green...but it's all a mater of cost and insurance payout. Why an old model ex dem bike is worth almost as much as a new one is beyond me!
Hopefully I may found a 2nd hand bike at a price I can reach to, seeing it in a few hours, so fingers crossed.

Unfortunately with any theft if they want it they will take it, all you can do is make it harder or more awkward so they move along. I wonder where was yours taken from , how, when ? :nenau

Assuming Its not a joy ride thing as would have turned up by now..........

As for looking for the number plate LC61KGZ I would say the scumbags are not that stupid and that was the first thing to go in the bin people would be better off looking for a F800GS Trophy which is a one off colour scheme and very nice on the eye.

With a none dealer rear plate (small writing advertising where purchased) :nenau

If it was to resurface and not go in the scumbag container bound for euro land.

You got it cheaper due to a sales error but surely that means you should get back all you paid! You know how hard they are to replace and what price (so should the insurance company) I wonder who you are insured with? :nenau

The price depends if you want to sell to a main dealer or they want to sell to you is vast with a big intake of breath reason :)

Finaly as mentioned I would place a post in the wanted section (what do you have to loose) you might get a Dealer read it and make you an offer :D theres plenty here :thumb

I've not seen a Trophy on the road, so guess they are quite rare?:nenau Should make it slightly easier to locate yours, but chances are its being ridden round Eastern Europe now by a drunk man wearing flip flops with a fag hangin out of his gob.:blast
 
I managed to get a really nice 2nd hand bike on Friday, so I'm back on the road (it's a trophy with only 570 miles on it) from a chap who wants a 1200gs.
The bike was lifted of a drive in chiswick, west London, on a Wednesday night back in July.
When I got my last gs serviced down at cw in Dorchester they mentioned that when these sort of bikes get nicked they tend to end up in africa.

Glad that you have now got yourself sorted. WRT BMW not wanted also new money for ex demo bikes it seems pretty common and they won't shift in price by more than a few hundred quid - a dealer said outright when I was trying to get a deal that if it wasn't an ex-demo he'd be able to be both more generous on the trade in and give a bit more off, but he couldn't budge on a demo bike.

Seems bonkers that they expect the same profit from a second hand bike that they do for new. Never had this with other brands.
 
I heard that UK dealers had sold all the 2012 new sock sometime ago so why would they discount any machines, either brand new or ex demo.

I bought an ex demo from CW but a mate bought a brand new Triumph 800XC with an extra £600 quids worth of goodies throw in for the same as I paid. He gets his first service for nothing as well.

IMO The only thing that makes paying a premium for the F800GS is the Euro dealer network.
