tubed on a tubeless rim

lads n ladies can you run a tubed tyre on a tubeless rim as long as you have a tube fitted???

Tubed,.. Why?

Do you carry a Tyre plugger Kit? Do you carry a pump? Or just a mobile phone. Fair Dink? I have repaired 7 road side Punctures ( one on an ATV in the Antarctic) I'll go a Plugger Kit ( tubeless) any day. If its a larger hole the tyre is no good anyway. Yes my old 5 and 7 searies I use to carry spare tubes. But later on I learnt the easy way? You carry the spare around under the rack for a coulpe of years? Go to use it and its split? This is actually what happeneed to me. Then a mate used a Plug and Glue ( Plugger)?? Never tubed again. Have I helped or confused? BIGJim Tasmania.

Is this the Karoos? I ran them without tubes on the advice of the guy in Punta Arenas who got them for me. He's a two times Chilean motocross champion so I took his word for it. The rear was fine, never lost any pressure in its life. The front kept going down due to a very slight ripio ding in the rim so I put a tube in and it was fine thereafter.

Thanks I'll tell you what it is, I ordered a rear tubed type Karoo by mistake and thats why I was asking, just wondering if it will fit with a tube fitted, you know me i never read the small print

Yes you can. But you can't fit a rimlock! I've run tubes in an MT21 (rear) and TCK (rear and front) on tubeless rims.

I know one guy who ran a mousee but it didn't last very long... about 500 miles!

Slightly off topic:

Met someone recently on a Virago style cruiser, they had a flat front tyre. Bike had regular spoked rims but they'd just fitted a part worn front tyre that said "Tubeless" on the sidewall, so they decided not to fit a tube.

I gently pinched the tyre & separated it from the rim & proceeded to point out what Tubeless meant..... Up until that point, he was adamant he'd done nothing wrong & was quite arrogant.

100% true, several witnesses, would not have believed it myself if I'd not been there. I've no idea how he managed to get as far as he did. Nearest dealer who stocked a tube was closed that day, had to send him through the middle of Oxford in rush hour yo another dealer. Probably needed a new tyre by the time he got there....

On trips to Morocco where there is a fair chance of splitting a tyre I carry tubes.
Also if you find yourself in a remote place with any form of puncture and are unable to get the tubeless tyre to seat, a tube will save the day
