Thanks Dahoum,

By the way, my bike was absolutely perfect. I covered 2900miles in 14days
and it did not miss a beat, averaged 49miles to the gallon with only a token top up of oil when I was back in France,

Covered 21k in two years on it so far, never had a major show stopper,

Well, what else would you expect from a 1200 :D

Regards Dave

Amazing! What was the rough cost of the trip, if I can be nosey?

The most expensive bit was the ferry Genoa-Tunis-Marseille. The ferries are not so frequent to Tunis, unlike Morocco and by leaving one port and returning to another, plus having a cabin it put the cost up to £800

Other than that hotels were cheap (£25.00) for cheap ones or still reasonable for posh ones (£65-75) and normally breakfast in included. Fuel is half the cost of UK in Tunisia though French fuel was expensive due to £-EUR exchange rates. Food in Tunisia was always good and never expensive. I spent around £650 on top of the ferry costs but could have done it cheaper.

The cheapest ferries are from Sicily but it's a long drive to get there and I did'nt have time.

Fantastic report. Perhaps Tunisia is the new North African destination.

Well done!

Brilliant!!!

WOW!! What an excellent trip Dave, me and a mate are in the early stages of planning a similar trip next year, can I ask how long the trip took please? Also were there any hassles with local law enforcement chaps?
So pleased you got to see your uncle! I have undertaken a similar trip (not to Tunisia) to Malta, also to see a fallen uncle.
Great write up mate, well done it looks like you had a blast.

Hi Mike,

I left early on a Saturday and returned home late on the following Friday week. It's the ferries to Tunis that really sort the timings out, but 2 weeks was fine. It's an easy 2day blat down to the Med either Genoa or
Marseille.

Glad you enjoyed the ride report. It's my first one,

Regards Dave :bounce1

Oh, forgot to mention that I had no problems what so ever with the Police. In fact I experienced the opposite, with Police always being polite and waving me through.

I found that slowing down when Police had a stop (usually at the first junction or roundabout in to a town) giving a wave and a smile, then just carrying on worked fine.

I was told that Tunisia is doing all it can to give tourists a pleasant experience and with anyone on a big bike being a tourist it certainly felt that way.

It really was a polite, crime free, hassle free trip with friendly people everywhere.

Tunisia in October

Dear Dave,

we two, a father & son team from Croatia, Zagreb, one on Suzuki V strom 650 (son Filip) and on 1200 GS A (father Danilo) did almost the same trip covering some 5100 km in 10 days (Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik - Bari (Italy), Palermo . La Goulette (Tunisia) ferry, 1200 km across Tunisia then back home: Palermo, Ancona - Zadar (Croatia) ferry, Zagreb. We started on October 20th (Zagreb) and finished it in Zagreb on November 1st. I'll try to share some of the photos we did on that trip, but you have brought to everyone interested rather precise impression of what is there to expect. This spring I did also Morocco, with my oldest son with one bike V Strom which, due to our weight, prevented us to explore the off road tracks in Southern Morocco where there was abundance of them. We were luckier this time, since we have each got own bike. If you're planning something in future, do be so kind and come up with the idea. Maybe we can share the excitement together. Also, there is a small team of 3 bikers from Zagreb, Croatia planning to go to Syria and Lebanon this coming spring. Anyone who is interested, this is also an invitation to join us.
