Dear Dave,

we two, a father & son team from Croatia, Zagreb, one on Suzuki V strom 650 (son Filip) and on 1200 GS A (father Danilo) did almost the same trip covering some 5100 km in 10 days (Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik - Bari (Italy), Palermo . La Goulette (Tunisia) ferry, 1200 km across Tunisia then back home: Palermo, Ancona - Zadar (Croatia) ferry, Zagreb. We started on October 20th (Zagreb) and finished it in Zagreb on November 1st. I'll try to share some of the photos we did on that trip, but you have brought to everyone interested rather precise impression of what is there to expect. This spring I did also Morocco, with my oldest son with one bike V Strom which, due to our weight, prevented us to explore the off road tracks in Southern Morocco where there was abundance of them. We were luckier this time, since we have each got own bike. If you're planning something in future, do be so kind and come up with the idea. Maybe we can share the excitement together. Also, there is a small team of 3 bikers from Zagreb, Croatia planning to go to Syria and Lebanon this coming spring. Anyone who is interested, this is also an invitation to join us.

Hi Danilo,

My daughter spent 9 months in Lebanon recently. We visited her in April in the Chouf mountains. The traffic was incredible. Our driver had to bump start the van on our first day. He did it in reverse gear into on coming traffic down a steep hill :bow. I'd love to go, but my wife has sworn never to drive/ride in Lebannon or Syria. There are plenty of great tracks in Lebannon and Syria, but you have to be careful of mines and other local difficulties:rolleyes:

If you would be interested, I can put you in touch with some local people who would be glad to see you and give you better advice than I can. Drop me a pm.

Now I have to persude SWMBO to let me go.:D

regards,

Path.

Path, thanks for your reply. The 3 of us already have a working taking off date, that is April 17th, 2010. Yes in days to come I'll subscribe and start a new thread. It seems to me that this is a well organized site, so one should take the full advantages of it. Also, we were told that police in Bulgaria and in Turkey very often accuses bikers for "over speeding" even when there is no apparent evidence of a presence of any speed tracking device. Two to three bikers can hardly get away from being robbed by cops, but larger number improves the odds. So, I look forward to increasing our numbers if possible. Look forward to talking again to you soon.

Great report David :thumb2

Very interesting to compare and contrast the pics with Morocco.....there are many that could have been taken in so many places there, but there's one very noticeable difference throughout......the apparent lack of litter !

It seems that Tunisia is a cleaner, tidier place....hard to spot any of the detritus and the ever present black plastic bags that blow around everywhere you go in Morocco....lucky photographs or a cultural difference I wonder?

Thanks though, good job :thumb

What a great read, thanks for taking the time to write it up.

Cheers Tom
