Turning off my avg anti virus

Want to install some Nikon software which came with my D40, instructions say to turn off my anti-virus software first. Could someone tell me in simple terms how to do this please?

personally, i wouldn't bother, but you probably do it by accessing the avg control panel. i'd start by right clicking the AVG icon in the system tray.

If you right-click on the AVG icon in the system tray (by the clock) then select "Quit AVG Free Control Centre" that should do the trick.

I have never switched AVG off whilst loading other software and have never had any issues with it conflicting with other programmes/software.
