Tyre Advice

Hmmm...yes. I had Annakee III before, and they WERE NOISY (Capitals because I had to shout :))!

CTA3 is quieter, but there is still a little hummmmm at certain speeds, on smooth tarmac, but I wear earplugs almost always, so don't notice (but I could still hear the Annakee III with plugs in!). Once speeds 50mph plus, I don't notice any noise other than the motor and the wind ;)

My cornering speeds went up significantly with CTA3 (frequent lean angles over 40 degrees now). Not that the Annakee's ever let go, but they just didn't inspire confidence (they felt "wooden") like the CTA3 does :okay So far, wear rates seem fine
Thanks for the reply Martin, I think I will be getting CTA3's then, I don't tear-arse about anymore so not looking for a tyre with super-duper qualifier type grip, but OE Bridgestone A41 looked part worn out when new and the racket from the front wears me down.. as I don't like wearing ear plugs either. My wife says I'm a deaf old bastard anyway but I can certainly hear that front Bridgestone tyre howling it's tits off, be glad when it's down to it's indicators, won't be long as it's done nearly 5000 mls now.

Ive just bought a 2021 1250 Rallye TE its fitted with Michelin Anakee Adventure tyres which I have to say I think are pants, ive only done a few hundred miles on them and have had a few slips which were clenchy bum moments
Im thinking of swopping them for a set of PR5s or roadtec 01 theres no chance of me ever using this offroad
any ideas of a pure road tyre thats quiet and has great grip wet or dry

Rob

Pure road tire that is quiet and has great grip wet and dry in GS sizes bettter than the 2 you mentioned...Conti RA 3 ! But in all honesty only if you plan to do a track-day because on the road the CTA3 or PST2 will be just as good and in case of the CTA3 will last a little longer !

RiDE Tyre test Nov 2019

I went for top rated Pirelli Scorpion Trail II on my GSLC. Such a difference in confidence, feel compared to previous Tourance Next

I shall stick with the Trail II's next time

They last forever - don't wait!

Mine looked hardly worn at just shy of 5k, horrendous noise

I agree. If you can afford it then get rid of them now and get the CTA3’s. I tried changing the screen and helmet but it’s the quieter tyres that make the biggest difference and thus riding so much more pleasurable.
I had a 2010 GSA for 9yrs and apart from TKC70’s I never even noticed road noise.

I am looking for advice re tyres for my 2018 R1200GS TE.
At the moment it has Metzler Tourance tyres fitted at times I find the front a bit vague.
I have ran Metzler Road Tech 01 GT's which were excellent on my previous bikes KTM Superduke Gt and my 2 Honda VFR 1200's .
I know tyre choice is subjective and I tend to stick to a type and brand so looking for a change.
I will be riding mainly on roads and touring planned hopefully this year in Europe.
Any advice appreciated.

I buy 2 or 3 sets per year and do 3 tours, mainly in Europe these days but have done South America, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Africa etc

For road use all the tyres mentioned are good, Scorpions, Metzler Road Tec, Dunlop Roadsmart etc.

But I have been using Michelin Road 5 Trail which is a tarmac tyre despite the name.

Three big qualities, sticky with lots of feedback, brilliant in the wet and resist squaring off......this later point when road touring is important as invariably you slog it to get 'on station in the touring region" and the tyres still have a profile for fun turn in. Apparently, the carcase materials and construction maintain the tyre shape.

no, not the ra3. i put a set on my vstrom 650 and from the word go they felt as if they were squared off. i have tried different pressures but very little difference. they grip is good it is just the handling feeling.

Yes I agree with all of that ref the Road 5 Trails.
They suited my style of riding and touring and great mileage and wouldn’t hesitate to have them again it’s just that I find the CTA3’s quieter albeit the CTA’s less stable at higher speeds with metal GSA top box.

I had Michelin PR4 on my K1600 and they were the best tyres I'd had. When I come to replace tyres my 1250GS came with (Bridgestone A41, noisy but not as noisy as the Anakee Adventure on otherwise identical nephew's bike) I'll be looking closely at Michelin Road 5 Trail, which is one of the recommended tyres on the Michelin website. Road only riding for me.

On eBay...M & P were selling Avon trail riders rears in GS-LC size for £49.99 today.

There were 22 left when I bought mine this morning.

Yes, they are good. Maybe as I lip read Michelin are OK for me😳

Changed out the Anakee after first week and will put them back on the bike when sold. But I'm a tarmac rider.

Be interested to know manufacturer date.

Marco...Tyre arrived today, I’m presuming that this is the date 2015, which seems to me to be old rubber?
Yes they are a bargain price, but not sure now if they are a bargain buy, comments lads, thinking of returning it?

So they are week 22 from 2015 so coming up for 6 years old, if they have been stored correctly will still be ok and for £49, just wear them out quick.

Full price tyres I would never expect them to be older than 2 years.

I thing im going to order a pair of road 5 trail tyres as they seem to be good on road and as I say im never going to take this off road
found them for £245 So that will do unless anyone knows where I can ger them cheaper
