Going to do a lot of road miles, can anyone recommended a decent set of tyres , going on x challange cheers:nenau

Road only or road with some dirt thrown in? What have you tried so far? How many miles you talking of, commuting or rtw?

The bike comes new fitted with Metzeler Sahara's. Not the cheapest but a good tyre for road use, will cope with gravel tracks

TKC80 perhaps slightly more off-road biased, OK on gravel but not much good on mud. Will wear out quicker than a sahara

Mitas E09 will probably last almost as long as a TKC80 but better off road.

Mitas E07 lasts ages - longer than sahara but with a similar tread pattern. The rear tyre has a squarish profile from new. Doesn't inspire confidence on wet roads but OK.

Not tried heidenau k60 but meant to be similar to E07.

For pure road use you could do worse than Metzeler Tourance. Not tried them in 18/21 sizes but in 17/19 they grip well and feel secure in the wet. I even rode across sheet ice with them and successfully turned left at the junction. After I parked the bike up I crossed the road and landed on my arse so they must grip well.

Mitas e08 are meant to last forever but there must be a trade off with grip.

Had tkc got on well with them, got eo10 on at mo,only got 1000 miles out of rear but good tyre, had tourance on my GSA loved them, been told they don't make a 18,thanks for your help, will investigate some more cheers again

Just a thought, what about getting a set of wheels from an X-moto for your road rubber?

Not sure about X-moto, isn't the front disc a different size and needs different spacers too?

X-country wheels bolt straight on but do lower the gearing slightly due to the 17" rear

That's a bargain. Mail order or local?
If mail order, could you let me know where?
ThanksGareth
