OK guys I'm going on a trip to Corsica and back which will be a distance of approx 3K miles. The bike has now done 3700 miles on the original Trailwings and I am wondering do I

A) Get a new rear fitted before the trip as the rear looks about half worn, thus throwing away a part worn.

B) Ride down to France and get one fitted whilst there, this could be a pain as my french is poor to say the least.

C) Don't bother and just go as you are, as the tyre will last the trip if you dont go to mad on the motorway.

One problem with getting a new tyre fitted before I go is that once I get back, I am then going away to Italy four weeks later so will need to fit another new one for that thus throwing away another part worn !!

What would you guys advise ??

How about buying one and strapping it to the back of the bike? If you need to change it, just turn up at a garage and point at the wheel, waving the new tyre around, I'm sure they'll get the idea, thus negating the language problem.

Why not fit a set of Tourances, which have a much longer life (10k?) and use the trailwings offroad.

Wing it..... half worn at 3700... journey 3000...... some life left..... unless Trailwings have the same butter centre as Mich T66's...... mine went from fine to dire in 300 miles (Hamme and back!) after 6500 miles of total life!

Or alternatively, if your as tight as me. Fit a new rear, but keep the old one to have refitted at a later date. There got to be at least another 3K in it, so at around £5 for refitting it's worth the hassle.

C) or there again B) but fit the old one at a future date. mmmm decisions, decisions. French for tyres is 'pneus' followed by a grunt and a smile, will result in a distainful look and a new tyre (unless the tyre fitters are on strike).

Just fit a new pair of decent tyres for christ sake, if you don't it will play on your mind every day and spoil your trips.

YOU MAY HAVE NINE LIVES, BUT US MERE MORTALS ONLY HAVE ONE, DO YOU FANCY RIDING ON BAULD TYRES AT 100MPH, I DON'T

SO RIDE SAFE, BY A SET OF TYRES, £100 IS CHEAPER THAN A BURIAL

Am I doin summat wrong?? HELP. Have we had or can we have a Pole on Model - Tyre Make - % off road - Pressure F&R - Miles F&R - Av MPG to give an overall rating ( is there a formula from this to give a rating to a particular tyre?)

I reckon so m8.

Just replaced the Tourances at 10K with 3mm still on both front and rear.

I don't think I ride particularly slowly so how you've only got 4k is a mystery to me.

btw - I run 36 front , 42 rear.

Back to Cecil's question. I find it difficult to believe that you can wear out a tyre on a GS in less than 7k. What's the tread depth now ?

What the hell do you guys do with your tyres to wear them out so quickly?

Cheers

Dick

Just fitted new rear Tourance, 6.5k miles and <2mm left on old one. Didn't think I was giving it excessive grief!
Still better than 3.5k on Firestorm @ £130, though.

At 6.5k not enough! Slowed down since you moved South then?
Worst 3.8k best 5k

Try 1.5k on a Tuono and 1k of that was running in!!!

I'm off to the Alps and Corsica tomorrow and didn't get a chance to get the tyre changed, it currently has about 2mm till the wear mark so should get me to the south of France where I have arranged a replacement to be fitted in the BMW dealer in Nice.
