Heading to Norway on friday week. I will have 6000 miles done on return. Will the tourance next tyres last.

The Tarmac in Norway is very abrasive as they use an aggregate like a pumice stone. I will be in Norway in July and return at 6000 miles. Today at 3000 the tyres look OK so will risk it........by the way the Esbjerj to Harwich ferry was holed below the waterline at the weekend and sailings are cancelled 'for essential maintenance' !

You should be ok. Don't stick to motorways and throw in loads of twisties, so the tyre doesn't square off, and it should be fine.:thumb

how many miles have you at the moment ? it will give you an idea on your wear rate.

im off to the alps next week and im getting my tyre changed before i go, it may make it or may not.

My tip change it now, keep the old tyre and put it back on for local use when the new one wears out, that's what im doing:thumby:

I wouldnt want to be looking for a new tyre in Norway..............

I'd be inclined to bang on an original Tourance on the rear. The speeds you will be doing on Norwegian roads - you won't notice it isnt a "next"

Tyres

My rear shagged at 3900 miles, mates around same, other mate 5800 down to canvas almost all on tourance next, although fronts fine.:nenau

Sound advise. That's what I did.

3000 miles in Norway is like 4000 here in wear terms..

Last thing you want to be doing is coming back on a bald tyre.

Great advice. I'm always amazed at the amount of people go on a trip with a part worn and get caught out!!

thanks

Centre of the tyre has 2.5mm of thread left. Mileage at 2300 , sound advice on changing, shame they charge so much to then put old one back on. Tempted to leave it and take a chance. Hope to try anekee as this is hopeless mileage from the next.

jeeps get it changed, that means you have used 4.7mm in 2300 miles yes ?

and you have 2.5mm left, thats about 750 miles to get to the legal limit of 1mm

:comfort

I bet the charge is less than the 3 points and fine you'll get on the way home and cheaper than hunting around for a tyre in Norway........you know it makes sense :thumb2

Sgt Bilco is correct:thumb

I should coco, it won't last

I thought I was erring on the cautious side, changing an old rear Tourance with 4mm in the centre, for a new one before a 2500 mile Alps jaunt next week

The tyre will definately not last. I've done 4800 miles on mine and its on the wear limits and over ready for a change. The anarkee arn't looking much better either, a friend of mine has anarkee's and at 3k its already starting to flatten and look tired. I think conti's may be the answer unless anyone knows different!

I was going to say that I'll try the Anakees next time round, but now am not so sure.:blast

Had Conti trail attacks on my hexhead and could get 6-7k from a rear no problem. The Michelin PR3 Trails may be better as they are dual compound.

NO - change it now. I am still in Norway but having done 5500 through Sweden and then back down Norway the roads up here are really rough and are very hard on tyres. I destroyed my rear Dunlop and the only tyre I could get was a BT502 and that is looking shagged after my return from the north - incidentally the singe rear cost me more than a pair in the UK... If I was going north again for the same time i would be looking for somthing a bit more aggressive / robust (conti or maxis perhaps), pay for the advance shipping and just get them changed at on of the national garage chains - have a look at the messages and blogs at www.tyclyd.com

OK , I have done 3000 miles two up with 36 pairs of shoes in the top box and a dig in the ribs if I welly it......so easy miles.......and the tyres look very good.

BUT on measuring the tread depth half the tread has worn so there is NO way these tyres will get me back from Norway's abrasive road surfaces especially as we have a number of 350 mile days to get up to the Arctic Circle and back.

The Tourence Next are not expensive fitted compared to other Branded tyre......£216 fitted to bike.

The other approved tyre is Continental Trail Attack. Any views on these tyres?
