Dublin mostly!
Howdy,
Needing a new rear tyre for the r1150gs, prolly go for a Tourance again.
Are the new type giving less mileage as is reported from time to time?
Where best to buy, Dublin or nip up to Newry ? Prefer to buy and fit in same place.

Like yerself, I have always been a Tourance type..... now on my 2nd GS.
I opted for the Tourance EXPs this time and have regretted it ever since. Stick with what you know.

New ones still look fine after 2000 miles. From new, they turn in very quickly, but give little or no feedback at all. With all my previous sets (about 5 sets) I had full confidence in the tyres and knew exactly what the bike was doing... no problem in big lean angles and the rear out to the edge. With the EXPs, I just cant get at one with the bike. It feels like it is gonna drop or slide. I know it wont, but I just can't be as aggressive as I would like to be.

Try phoning Charles Hurst Tyres in Sydenham, Belfast. (Not Boucher) Tel 028 90453393. ask for Michael (Ex manager of Harry's Tyres Belfast).

He is excellent with the GSs and does a ride in ride out service.... prices have always been the keenest in the North for me. :thumb2

Consensus seems to say thate the new Tourance EXP are pretty shoite in terms of longevity. I've been running Continental Trail Attacks on my GSA for the past year and having nothing bad to say about them. They give good confidence in the wet and are not overly noisey. With about 8000km on the rear, theres still just under 50% thread left.

There's plerasnt yo read and lots of opinions in a good thread ('scure the pun) on the other section here http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=154915&highlight=trail+attack

Bin,

Ah, 'fraid you might ask that! I had them fitted new to a used GSA I bought in the Fatherland last summer. I know that Crossans don't do them, as I was up there recently and asked them.

On the other hand, I wouldn't be too concerned with needing a 'buy-and-fit' arrangement at the one location. Most bike dealers I know of (and anecdotally, a lot more, it seems) seem to have accepted that they cannot compete on retail prices with the internet tyre sellers, but will, for a fee, fit tyres that you bring to them. I've had it done locally here twice in the past few years.

So, I'd advise you ring around and see if you can get someone to fit a tyre purchased elsewhere, then purchase online for the best price. You'll obviously get a better price for fitting if you bring the dealer the removed wheel, but its difficult to do without both at the same time! I'd guess you'll pay a fitting charge of €10-15 per wheel under this arrangement, or €25-€30 per wheel "ride-in/ride-out". There are other threads on this subject elsewhere in the Irish section, I seem to recall.

Removing your own wheels is also a good excuse to have a good look around calipers etc, if you like getting your handys dirty!

For sake of moving on, I have ordered a Tourance old type rear tyre from Eiretyre Eu127 delivered. I'll be home in October, so hopefully it will be there and then I will find somewhere to fit it.

If any seduce-tions, let me have it!

Biketyre quoted me Eu175 fitted at home, when I phoned in July.
Prolly try Trail Attacks next when I will be replacing both tyres.

Had a rear Tourance replaced by Martin of The Bike Tyre Co. last week.

He came to the office & fitted the tyre for just €160 :thumb2

You'll get him on 01 8199801

I needed a new front when I was back in Belfast and they fitted a new tyre for me. I'm impressed with the ride-in service, and it was 2 quid cheaper than getting a tyre fitted to a loose wheel back in Suffolk :thumb2

Dublin Tyres

I have had the 3 of my bikes all fitted with tyres (either bought directly from them or purchased elsewhere and fitted by them) over the last few years by mad Iggy in Blakestown tyres. Give him a ring and ask.
Take a look at his website for a bit of entertainment.

got a pair of Trail Attack tyres for the R1150GS from M+P - delivered for a little over €166.
Now, I have to get them fitted.

Where are you? I have a guy from work living near Celbridge who has a Tyre fitting machine and a balancer for bike tyres if you want his number.

got a pair of tourances fitted & ballanced at GM Tyres in tandragee, £160 back in July

Tourances fitted and balanced in Duffys at €285 at the moment. Im sure it can be had cheaper elsewhere in Ireland but could you be bothered driving to Belfast etc for them when the bike is a necessary part of my work and time is money.

GM Tyres

GM Tyres in Tandragee (Between Newry/Armagh) on 028 38 849169 (048 from south)

Great ride in ride out service with the right kit to do the job.(Even padock stands for the single sided brigade and proper lifts for the Harley Tractors:augie)
Very careful with bike wheels:thumb2

On old Tourances, at present, had Conti RAs previously but went back to old Tourances because I just thought they were better, certainly in the wet and for longevity.
Will be needing a set soon myself, has anyone used the dual compound tyres at all ?
