Tyre opinions on 1150 ?

10,000 miles from a motorcycle tyre , that's astonishing!
I've tried PIrelli Scorpion Trail , Anakee 2 , Anakee 3 recently on a variety of bikes ... they all grip well, we n dry , but are finished by 5000 miles! ( wel, the rears are and you have to change as a pair don't you ? )

I've had gs's since 2004 either 1150's or 1200's and currently have both. I have never found either tourances or battle wings wanting in any department. Excellent longevity, no issues whatsoever in the wet and grip in the dry all the way to the edge. Battle wings were called death wings by some riders..
I have gone through 6 pairs and rate them highly. On Rideout's, and I've done loads, with riders of varying ability and equally varied bikes and tyres never have either of them given the slightest cause for concern.

I rate them highly.

Had an RT 1200 that was cont road attack shod - again no issues.

Just to add a little diversity ;)

I think King Rat (hope you're fixing Ok Mr) of this parish gets plenty more than 10k out of his tyres as do others.

It was after some ping pong on a thread some while back that I actually started counting the milage I was getting. By 9-10k there's tread, but the profile has changed enough to be annoying (for me anyway). If I could live with the handling, I could maybe get more.

I think king rat does a lot of motorway miles and at steady pace, that and light use of the brakes helps. I'm another 10k out of my tyres rider. Light on the throttle and the brakes.

As above, 2 pairs of TKC70 with a pair of Anakee 3 in-between, prefer Anakee 2 but now hard to get I think. The TKC70 suits what I do and I'll be fitting another pair for a trip to Greece and Albania in August...kinda tempted by the Avon Trailrider as well, have a set on my CCM SM and have been impressed by both mileage and grip ( previous Super Corsa only managed 1600mls on the rear :blast ) but the Trailrider has passed that and still plenty wear left.

Anakee 2 available from Demon Tweeks £156 a pair delivered ...... :beerjug:

(PS Beancounter , thats an extraordinery mileage , I'd be happy if a pair make 5000)

As phooey points out, most of my riding is motorway and even when I'm commuting into London (10 miles e/w from Bromley) I'm pretty light on throttle and brakes. Even when I was riding two up from Chatham to London everyday I'd get 11k-12k from a pair of Pirelli Diablo Stradas on my TDM850.

Worst mileage return I had was on a Rockster and was from a Michelin Pilot Sport front - that went off by 6k but I was using the brakes far harder than I'd planned, I think because of the servo assist and the telelever front end.

Also, as Slipperyeel says, the profile has well gone by that mileage but it's only the final 1k miles that the handling starts to feel quite off (in my hands anyway).

phooey - hello mate, it's Cam (from Abel's Fort Augustus tour last month). Hope you're well. :)

Tip Top thanks . Is it too late to say welcome to the site? Slight off topic - did you notice what make the tall blue and white tent that went up directly opposite us was ? Biker couple left on Saturday.

Thanks for the heads up Spud...just need to toss a coin now and decide :D

£158 - but thanks for the tip :thumb2

To be honest I've never tried them, but they seemed like a good price and the Anakee 3, ( apart from the noise!) were ok on my LC.
I'm off to the Alps and that neck of the woods shortly so thought I'd treat her to some new "boots"

Sorry dude, didn't even notice the other folk around us, well apart from the two women who parked up on the Saturday night with the dog that barked whenever I went to pee.

They're a good tyre. I liked them and have even considered getting then again. They look good too

I had a set of Anakee 2's on my 1150. Great tyre.

Just fitted second set of Tourance, no issues good in wet long mileage, whatever you choose get a price from tyreleader.com.
Saved £30 and delivered within three days from Andorra

A bumpdate for those reading with interest... The Conti TA2 that I put on four months ago still have plenty of tread but the profile is such that tipping into corners requires a noticeable effort. They still grip but they don't like going over white lines where the tyre tends to wander. My speedo was broken for quite a few miles but a rough guess suggests about 5k miles out of this set.

I wouldn't actually considering changing them just yet but I'm having new suspension fitted by MCTechnics in a couple of weeks and for the set up to be accurate the tyres need to be in good condition.

I put on the Bridgestone A40s under Bridgestone's seemingly annual £50 offer. I had Anakee 2s on the bike before that. With the A40s the front needs a bit more help tipping in, but when you're mid corner it feels a lot more stable which is good. There is the feeling of some wriggling in the rear but it's A. never caused me a problem and B. probably good to get some feedback rather than nothing and then ending up on your arse.

Can't / shouldn't really comment on longevity because they've only been on a few hundred miles and I'm incredibly easy on tyres (even on my track bike) mostly due to being lighter than the average tosser.

Had he Metzeller Tourance's on my 1150 for years, got about 9000m from rear (commuting and touring) - moved to Tourance EXP's and loved them but now discontinued !!??
mates have the Tourance NEXT on their 1200's but say they are crap once half worn. I'm going on to Avon Trailriders for the next change as these have had rave reviews. :thumb2
If you are buying on line have a look at https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk as their prices seem pretty good for most things.:thumb2

Had mitchelin anakee 2s on both varaderos I’ve had in the past and they were a great wet and dry tyre have just bought my first gs 1150 adventure (hopefully have it next week) and I think I’ll try them on that couldn’t fault them over 60 thousand miles on them

Happy with tourance for the last 11 years but normally change to these just for the winter, they're a bit strange when you first try them but after a few miles they're sound :D
