I am riding an 08 GSA. The rear tyre pressure monitor is showing that the pressure is going down. I have checked it manually several times and the pressure is correct. Is there a quick fix for this or is it a Main Dealer visit?

Thanks, thats the problem with all these useless electronics, more cash for dealers.

That is very cynical. I find most electronics are an improvement and very reliable.

The tyre pressure system is useful not useless, as you suggest. You may need a replacement sensor in the tyre - these are battery operated and should last a good few years.

The reason why its a dealer job is that the new sensor has to be coded to make it "individual" to your bike, which incidentally can be set up for two pairs of wheels.

I'm learning not to rely on TPM....

Coming back through Italy last month on a long motorway dash, both sensors stopped reading, big red flashing light on the dashboard ( therefore I assume I'm going to die), so I immediately think the tyres are going flat, and despite everything feelign ok, I now have a worry..

Pull, over everything looks fine... fill up with Petrol... ride off, everythings working fine again..

If i noticed a gradual decrease in their readings I would believe them.. However I now ignore them if they come up with a null reading.

Hi

The sensors communicate with the computer using radio signal.Maybe something disturbed the communication. It has happend to me 2 times. Both times a BMW car just passed me. I guess they are using a similar system in the cars...

When I bought my GSA the tyre pressures were in bar and appeared pretty constant. I got them changed to psi and now the pressure indication tends to vary with somewhat inconsistent readings when the bike is started/stopped. I use the tyre pressure indication as a guide and not gospel, I have my own pressure gauge I use for checking once a week.

I had mine changed to read psi as well. I find it quite accurate. When the tyres have warmed up after 10 minutes they usually read 2psi higher than when cold as you would expect. The cold readings are always within 1 psi of my usual gauge although I still rely on manual gauges before a ride. The monitors have been useful in the past to indicate a slow puncture so I could get home and fix it.

The car system, at least as fitted to my wife's 123d doesn't use radio transmission. It doesn't display a pressure reading like that on my GS. It simply indicates a warning if one of the car's tyres suddenly drops in pressure. You need to initialise the system, each time that you change the tyre pressures and it then detects any sudden changes in the rolling circumference of each tyre.

1200's :blast Too many electronic gizmo's to go wrong! Buy an 1150 before it's too late! :augie

Excuse my ignorance how do I initialise the system.

Just had my bike in at glouster BMW for that and a few other problems(fuel gauge not working and a hole new siwg arm!!!!) all fixed now at no cost to me:D:D:D

Was changing to read PSI a dealer job and how much was it please ?

I'd like to do likewise

It's a simple task once the bike is hooked up to the diagnostic computer - so easily done at service - I had the tyre pressure changed to PSI, the clock to 24 hour format, & the indicator self-cancel turned off. It's three little "ticks" on the diagnostic display, so simples.

does anyone have a list of these 'tick' options that can be changed via the diagnostic computer by any chance?
Or a link to a list somewhere?
It would be nice to go in with a list of what I want changing when next in for a service

Apart from those listed above, you can change the Temperature to show Degrees C or F, & the rest are to "metricate" the display, which unless you live in a country that uses Kilometres instead of Miles, is unlikely to be practical.

All the bells and whistles options are just a pension pot for dealers,I hate the way they order them in with full options packs then try to tell you your bikes going to be worthless second hand without them, useless tat most of it that will at some point let you down and in need of costly dealer repair :augie

I find some of the extras quite handy, as an example the ESA is brilliant and constantly used. the ABS is a safety feature I hope never to use but nice to have and the tyre pressures are fun but not something I rely on. Possibly the feature I use most of all is the temperature thingy.

I have never had an electronic failure on any of my BWM's and to date any warranty claims on any boxers I have owned were corrosion related, noted by the dealer and always dealt with swiftly at a service. :thumb2
