At the moment there seem to be two types of small tyre pump commonly available.

There are the small foot pumps such as the motrax branded pump and there are the small electrical pumps on offer at garages when you buy petrol from them.

Does anyone have any experience of either type of pump?

Cheers

There's also a third option - a bicycle pump. Some people scoff at this, but they're fine for topping up the pressure in motorbike tyres, and much smaller to carry around.

I also have one of the cheapo electric pumps bought from a petrol station. It's noisy and slow, but it does work. I always carry the hand pump as a backup though.

I found I couldn't get the Motrax one to work on the 1200GS - it works fine on my wife's Bonneville but I couldn't get a decent connection on the GS.

So I bought a Sparrow Portable Pump from NNs (and a BMW connection convertor) and that seems to work just fine.

Petrol station is okay if you live extremely near one - I've always read that tyres were meant to be checked cold - by the time I would ride to my nearest one, they certainly wouldn't be cold. So I check the tyres at home before setting off...

I've also found that petrol station guages are pretty inaccurate at times....

But hey - each to their own - if you have a good close petrol station with a reliable tyre pressure guage, then go for it...
