Tyre question?

I am soon to collect my new machine, it's a 2006 GSA which will soon need a pair of new tyres

I am after opinions/advice as to options.

Need a good all round (excuse the pun) wet/dry tyre

Get a set of the original Metzeler tourance tyres. The older bikes handle brilliantly on them wet or dry and you get good mileage from them. These were the OEM tyre for your bike as well.

I used PR4's for a while Inc a trip to the Alps - very impressive

Now I have Avon Trailriders and have to say they've raised the bar... I use them every day in all kinds of weather and shite.

I've just ordered a set of the Michelin PR4 Trails to try this year after a tidal wave of good reviews/experiences.........

Road tyres are the best bet if you never take it off road and never get onto dirty lanes. PR4s can be got in the 19" diameter. I often rid on gravel or mud over rough tarmac on back lanes so find Conti TKC-70 are worth the slight compromise in high speed stability. I had some "moments" on that stuff with a 100% road rear tyre. The 25% off road biassed Contis have been solid for me but they are not as stable on the motorways.

However, If you want to do some light trails or green lanes as well try the Mitas E07. I've just picked up a nearly new pair to try and I have to say I'm blown away by them. Very secure in the wet and shitty roads and solid on the motorways.

They also look like a GSA tyre should look like

New front E07 is on....the rear will be on tomorrow...they certainly look the part....

My TKC-70s are doing OK but are a bit loud at speed. What is the Mitas E07 like for tread noise?

Bendy, how are yours wearing?
My threadblocks are wearing at opposite angles to each other (if that makes sense)
It makes it impossible for them to roll smoothly.

Dunlop Trailsmart /TR91

+1 ....won a number of comparison tests.....stable in all conditions, great road holding and superb in the wet. New version just as good as the old but lasts longer. Highly recommended.

The Anakee 3s are good BUT fekin noisy compared to the Trailsmarts.

Just had a new pair of PR4s fitted, the old set did 8314 miles. The rear was down to 2.1mm and the front just over 3mm. I admit that 50% of that mileage was done on British, Belgian, French or Spanish motorways, with the balance on A & B roads and suburban streets. Never had a puncture and the TPS only registered a slight drop in pressure on 2 or 3 occassions. Great tyres, no hesitation in buying another pair. Alan

Bridgestone T30 EVO. Best tyre I have had on my GS and I have been through a few different sets over 62K miles!
