I'm not sure that choosing tyres on the grounds that they look right is the best option. FWIW PR3s were great though in a comparison test (me on PR3 and my mate on PR4) the PR3s squared off more than the PR4s, which kept their profile quite well and continued to grip, said Dave, after my PR3s felt decidedly dodgy.

The Conti TKC-70 offers butch looks with minimal negative manners on tarmac. They work well on gravel and are quite noisy but only at speeds where ear plugs are needed anyway. Make sure you get the higher speed rated version. The carcass is the same as Road/Trail Attacks.

2000 miles of very light use (solo; no motorways) and the rear was very squared off. By 3000 miles it was totally shot. Went back to Avon for inspection several weeks ago; no response from them.
For reference, I usually get 6-7000 miles from a rear (with a good bit of two-up, fully loaded touring).

How did they perform besides the abysmal longevity??
My PR4 rear is buggered at 3k grips like fleck though ,but 3k is not good enough from a premium tyre.

The Avon's were brilliant apart from their longevity. I'll report back when I've heard from Avon. I'd use them again if mine was decided to be faulty, and a replacement issued. Would not be putting my money down for more at this point.
Dunlop Roadsmart 3s are proving to be a class act. A road tyre, but as good as any of the 90/10% when on unpaved roads.
Two up, camping gear, stand down, and lasting well. Noisy though.

Tourrance, Tourance Next, PR4 - I honestly cant tell any difference at all between the different brands of tyres I've had. They have all felt exactly the same.

Had two sets of conti TKC70 on .... love em...wet, dry, rough, smooth........not a problem and I don't hang around.....

What sort of mileage did you get from your tkc70's? Are they noisy at speed? Do they ware out funny? I'm considering these next for mine as I want something stable on gravely back roads.
They work very well on the loose stuff for a 70/30 tyre......but........mine are wearing very funny, causing instability.
I can only comment on my own experience.

Yes I'm the same ... 2000 miles ( including a track day ) and I don't think I've got enough to left for trip to France
Fancy a change ... But the PR4 grip so well ... Rubbish on gravel tho

I've found the PR4's grip very well but a bit lazy turning in compared Tourance Next which I had last time.
