Just got my copy of June's Bike Magazine (what's that all about, aint even May yet :eek ).

As well as a (yawn) test of the 1200GS v an SM v a naked v a sports bike there is a test of GS size tyres (tested on a 1200).

10 different tyres, mostly dual purpose and a few road tyres. No pure off road tyres.
They were rated as road tyres and track tyres, but sadly, not off road :nenau

Track winner was the Dunlop D607 trailmax and Conti Road Attack and road winner was the Dunlop and Conti again.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that I would have mirrored all the comments they have made (of the tyres I have ridden) - the Dunlop is certainly my fav.

I was less impressed about what they said about Battlewings, my latest fitment - only scrubbed in at the weekend so too early to say what I think of them.

Did they come out bad in the test? I got my bike with a set of them factory mounted.

No, not particuarly, just not especially rated - other tyres came out better if you see what I mean. Comments were:

Track - They turn well but there is a lot of movement, especially getting on the power out of corners. The corner that takes you onto the back straight has overbanding and a dip midway through and is a good test of the tyres ability to put the power down and remain stable. These snake around. You can feel the tread pattern giving, although they are not as bad as set 4 (Anakees).

Road - After the easy handling of set 5 (Avon Azaro), it's obvious these are a dual purpose tyre; you can feel the tread pattern at low speed. A 30mpg slalom lets you feel the tyre rolling over the blocks and there's a tiny bit of vagueness cornering over rough surfaces or overbanding. Otherwise they are good, but just lack the connection with the road of sets 3 (020's) and 5 (Azaro)
